i never was a fan of hatton nor did i ever think that he was an elite fighter but i do have a lot of respect for what he accomplished. he is more than likely headed for the hall of fame and i think it's well deserved. he took chances and tried to be the best and that's all you can ask for as a boxing fan. i hope he enjoys his life outside the ring and always stays associated with the sport.
Exactly, he gets far too much **** from people who've never stepped into a ring during their pencil pushing lifetimes. Hope he sticks to this, stays clean and sober, and creates good promotional competition for Frank ****** here in the UK.
Much respect to Hatton. I was never a big fan either, but the guy gave it his all. I think the Brits might be the best boxing fans in the world. They were very supportive of Hatton, and he always gave them their money's worth. Sure, he took a couple of losses at the end there, but you could tell he was trying his hardest in both fights. Compare that to Haye who had a bunch of fans follow him to Germany only to see him throw 3 punches a round and basically give up in the second half of the fight.
you didnt think he was elite and you didnt like him but you think its well deserved? ( The elite go to the HOF) Makes no sense at all. Hatton was a warrior and is a british legend. I always loved watching him. I wished he bounced back after the pacman lose tho. Great fighter, lost to the best P4P fighters. The built up to the mayyweather fight was huge and it was a good fight. alway will be your fan
he lost to the elite fighters but he was always game. there are more than a few fighters in the hall that were not elite during their time but they got in for other reasons. guys like gatti, calzaghe, virgil hill and hatton will probably all get in the hall but i wouldn't consider any of them elite fighters.
He'll be back. Hatton always does this. When there is a big event going on he gets jealous of the spotlight and talks about coming back. When nothing is going on he tells everyone he is retired. Watch during the lead up to Ortiz/Mayweather I wont be surprised to see Hatton tell the media he wants to fight the winner.
Great to see a thread like this. I got the distinct impression not many people appreciated him. He will go down as a British legend. He gave it all in the ring, and came up short against the two best fighters on the planet. He took an army of fans with him (we even managed to drink the MGM grand dry of beer against Mayweather). Will be missed. A once if a lifetime fighter, even if he wasn't a once in a lifetime talent.
Much respect to Ricky Hatton for almost all of his career. The home town/home ref helping him/dirty tricks with Kostya Tszyu prevent me from fully liking the guy. Take that one fight away, take away hiring alien as his coach and hide the videos of him flashing his bum and I am his fan.
