Just wanted to make a thread purely based on the enjoyment Marquez V Pacquiao III brought me. It was a thinking mans fight which I enjoyed from start to finish. O.K, it never had any knockdowns and lacked a few huge power punches which would have made it a classic, but the ebb and flow of the fight was fantastic. Watching it had me engrossed. It struck me early on with Marquez looking bigger than ever and holding his own in those initial exchanges that there was every chance this could follow a similar path as their previous match-ups. There was a slightly more cautious approach by both fighters which didn't have a negative impact on my viewing, it was intense. Pacquiao has been slaughtered since Saturday Night quite unfairly for me because a big part of enjoying the fight was related to his performance as well as the winner in my eyes, Marquez'. Manny stalked, feinted, countered and set up traps all night but couldn't unlock the puzzle that is Juan Manuel Marquez, it was terrific. It was a night where the big-shots from both fighters didn't find the target, Marquez showed his matrix-like fluidity when faced with Pacquiao's assaults, the sixth-sense like defense which peaks when fighting the filipino was evident again, whilst Manny himself was no slouch as Dinamita exploded in bursts throughout the twelve but surprisingly found a less stationary Pacman. I think if Pacquiao did not get the nod then we would be looking at an instant re-match and that is what we must get. Do everything to get Marquez and Pacquiao back in the same ring again, yes there's been controversy and in many peoples eyes Marquez is very hard done-by but the one thing that will get him onboard is the reward he deserves, his best payday to date. I really enjoyed the fight. I haven't been that excited watching one at home for a while. It's just a shame we've all been talking about the decision since.
Have to agree, good post acknowledging the fact the fight was a good watch, which seems to have been forgotten due to the final decision. :good There was a building intrigue for me as the fight progressed, mainly due to the manner in which JMM was dealing with Pac, the first time in a long time that Pac was facing a lot of problems from an opponent and not having it all his own way. There was tension there as well, I was half expecting JMM to end up on the canvas as per the first two fights, so was anticipating a lightning shot from the Pacman at any time. I have read a few posters mention the fact it's good to see an underdog to produce the goods on the night, which I wasn't expecting.
I throughly enjoyed it, I really loved watching JMM trying to stay disciplined. At times you could see him wanting to counter but stopping himself from throwing out of range and getting floored like he did in previous fights. Was a fascinating match up and to see JMM execute gameplan to perfection IMO was brilliant and enjoyable. Sadly the decision ruined it slightly for me. But i know who won the fight and it ain't Manny. Manny Knows!!
Manny knows indeed! Marquez staying disciplined was something I had discussed with someone on the general. Despite having Pacman down for a stoppage win I had spoke about Marquez refraining from throwing 5, 6 and 7 punch combos and cutting it down to 2s and 3s and that seemed to be pretty much the way it panned out. Also felt Manny would be more patient and when he did get the chance thought he woulda got the stoppage but Marquez nailed it. Hats off to Nacho too, it was a masterclass!
3 JMM v Pac fights are more than enough for me, two guys whose styles just dont mesh properly & always result in hard to score fights, the thought of a 4th bores the big scottish tits off of me! pac to fight Floyd & JMM to face Burns in my perfect boxing world, not like I have an agenda or anything
Manny Pac walked forward in straight lines all night, with little head movement, he struggle to grasp the concept of neat straight punches, he couldn't fight inside, because he was too wild and un co-ordinated. He clearly was not skilled enough, to land power shots to the head..? But he still neglected the body..?!! It was a poor performance from Manny Pac in my opinion, very poor technical performance.
Pac was stepping back and blocking too PK, it wasn't all bad, I enjoyed the thing! :good Edit - I was alarmed at the lack of punches he threw to the body though!
