So he struggled with Johnson and flaws that we overlooked were brought out by Johnson, definitley.

Is Dawson less than many were projecting? Definitely.

BUT, is he still a potential P4P elite? Of course he is, the kid is extremely talented and just has some issue's that need to be worked through, but nobody better question his heart and resolve, even if they question his chin and durability(valid). His speed, combination punching and accuracy is all of the top elite class and if he did have an iron chin, we'd not even be having this discussion.

As it stands now, he's still the best at LHW until Calzaghe arrives, Tarver will not beat him, Diaconu has a good shot but I am not sure on that fight yet, Woods, Erdei and the lot will not beat him and Hopkins would not beat him either at this point.

Johnson performed last night to the best of his abilities, he has punch resistence beyond most fighters dreams, the guy is made out of steel and the difference between him and the other LHW's is that his style of relentless pressure obviously disrupts a more fluid boxer style like Dawson, I particularly thought Dawson was a bit better and Johnson was past it, but Johnson proved me wrong and probably most people here aside from Sues2nd and a few others who saw this one coming.

But do not even go with the 'exposed', 'fraud' and other titles while half of you ****s hype Kelly Pavlik and Jermain Taylor level fighters, two guys who are CLEARLY a LEVEL BELOW Chad Dawson, flaws shown and all.

Dawson drops down in my P4P rankings to the lower top 20, but it won't take but a few very nice performances over good opposition for him to get back near the top 10 in the same right, if he shows the necessary improvements.

Im looking forward to the Diaconu fight, one punch is all it takes and Dawson is out.

The question would be if Dawson is good enough to not let that one punch come in for 12 rounds, he certainly didnt look that good enough yesterday.

I am suprised that is defense is not better than it is. He shows great footwork, speed, comination punching, angles, doubles and triples the jab, faboulous at going to the body. Johnson was able to get through that defense, not easy, because of the angles he was creating, but he was tagging him. His chin is average. Not chinny and not granite but he can be hurt, a huge volume puncher, or a big puncher with accuracy gives him problems and that is all I am worried about. He has his offense practically mastered though.

I was gonna start a thread, "Chad ain't that bad" but you've said what I was gonna say. I've seen Johnson B4 and know how tough he is, I've never seen Dawson or read much about him and was impressed with him, he's got fast hands and good accuracy, took a hell of a right hand and still got through the round. If he learns from this fight he improves he'll be a hell of a fighter.

Dawson probably has more trouble with fighter like Johnson as he is a righthanded southpaw. Without a particularly strong left cross he'll have a few problems with strong, durable come forward fighters.

Not to many fighters are like Johnson. So is was smart for him to fight this type of fight early in his career.

I dont see an future p4per in Chad Dawson, this was easily the biggest fight of his career so far against the biggest name and in his home town. Its not his speed, accuracy or combinations that are the problem, the problem is in the biggest fight of his life, he switched off, didnt stick to a game plan, got out worked(in some rounds), hit and hurt by somebody who is essentially past his best and was never in the elite bracket to begin with - Johnson isnt as "elite" as ESB wants him to be!

Dawson either chose to get smacked in the face or he just isnt as defensively slick as he thinks he is.

I in fact thought Dawson won last night, I dont feel Glen was robbed (there are a few fights in which he certainly was not robbed at all!). You have got to remember this wasnt Dawson in his 15th defence against some no name to keep him busy, and it wasnt an up and coming Dawson fighting some pug who he thought he could beat with one hand, this was the biggest fight he's ever had and he seemed bored, almost lazy!

Going on last nights performances I def pick Tarver to beat Dawson. Tarver beat a man, who beat Johnson fair and square, and Tarver made it look easy. I also dont feel Tarver makes that "elite" bracket either before anyone jumps on me!

Dawson has to raise his game to make my list of top potential! :bart

Ok, let's assume defence improves, tactical awareness and disciple improve, power improves, and ring-craft gets better with experience and maturity - he's quite young, after all.

What will not improve is his chin and to a certain extent, his mental qualities (focus/concentration, decision-making under pressure, nerve, etc.)

Diaconu might not be talented or solid enough to land that punch on him, but a solid come-forward pressure fighter with a good punch, particularly an explosive one (a bit like Diaconu) will eventually take him out even if everything improves.

But, anyway, for all that to improve, particularly defence and tactical awareness and discipline, it will take 2-3 years. This guy's had 26 fights and has been a pro for almost 7 years...it's not like he's just starting out, despite his young age. So...it might take quite a while for him to improve a lot.

He is flashy and smooth, but his mental qualities and his chin will let him down. There are more talented fighters in the game, I think, on the whole; even if they don't look so good. I think he can become Top 10, but I cannot see him becoming p4p Top 5, ever.

Moreover, right now, Calzaghe, Kessler and Bute all are favourites over him at 175, IMO, and Calzaghe and Kessler at 168.

I think Hopkins beats him, if he is not more faded than usual. Tarver, I think might have at least 40% chance against him, I think.

    Hope I am wrong, though.

Also, I hope I know not what I am talking about. :)

Let me put it to you this way ........... Dawson barely beat Johnson but beat him and Calzaghe new better than to get in the ring with him. That says it all. Johnson is ELITE period..... just not top elite. Do you remember he beat the best LHW at that time in Tarver. This guy is far from a slouch. Ask CALSLAPPY.

    Absolutely no chance.

    Just compare Dawson to Taylor.

Tarver is a step up from Johnson and Bhop is a step up from Tarver, once he gets past these guys he can think of Joe C.
