I am referring to the article on the front page. The title itself makes me cringe. Does the author really imply that sportsmanlike behaviour in our sport shouldn't be held in regard anymore? And then justifies Floyds actions by stating that foul play happens in other sports too?? Well, two wrongs don't make a right. And for me, as a boxing fan, boxing still is a noble art and should be held to a high standard, more even so than other sports. Most importantly, foul play in our sport is dangerous in that it might seriously hurt the athletes. Hurting your opponent may have more severe consequences than fouling in a basketball game.

Contrary to MMA, where it's 'win at all cost', boxing is a true sport, and it's in the Olympics. And the credibility of our sport has suffered a lot during these last 10 years. Scandalous decisions time and time again, robberies, corruption, idiotic boxing politics, and so on... have undermined our sports reputation as the 'sweet science'. Small wonder boxing is losing it's popularity fast and 'fight fans' are fleeing to MMA.

Floyd is arguably the P4P #1 (or #2) fighter in boxing. He's the biggest boxing star in the US, one of the main faces on HBO and thus THE ambassador of our sport (alongside the Klitschkos and Pacquiao maybe).

And I gotta say he's representing our sport very badly. I'm not even gonna start about his thuglike behaviour outside the ring. But that aside, he doesn't respect the fans by having 'vacations' and not giving us the fights we want to see. The fights boxing needs so badly. Floyd Mayweather doesn't care about boxing. This wasn't always like that, and until now he stayed classy inside the ring at least. Inside the ring, lil Floyd was a true sportsman, until he threw these sucker punches against Ortiz.

So there are double standards: someone like Ortiz is a dirty fighter, and he should never get a pass for it; but it's worse when the ambassador of our sport doesn't show sportsmanship than when a punk like Ortiz doesn't do it. Because Mayweather represents boxing - Ortiz doesn't. Mayweather lowered himself to Ortiz level though, maybe even lower, and that is simply not acceptable. Mayweather has to behave in a sportsmanlike behaviour inside the ring (so does Pacquiao and the Klitschkos for that matter, the other ambassadors of the sport), and until these suckerpunches against Ortiz he always did it. And he never needed any foul play to win any of his fights (he wouldn't have needed foul play against Ortiz either). Floyd should not get a free pass by the boxing medias for what he did either. We finally need to step up for sportsmanship in our sport.

And stop with that 'protect yourself at all times' excuse- while that may be the #1 boxing rule in the book, there's also unwritten rules, and we all know that what Floyd did was unsportsmanlike and not honourable.

Any true boxing fan should agree with me on this.

It was classless and typical of Floyd. If you watch his early career, there have been quite a few occassions where he's reached out, pretending to touch gloves, only to then sneak in a hook or a straight right. It's not sportsmanlike, but it is within the rules. And with the Ortiz fight, he did nothing different, apart from knocking the guy out and ending the fight prematurely.

The article makes bad analogies. What Dan Marino did was more analogous to a feint in boxing than anything else. Re: Michael Jordan, the push off should have been counted a foul. The better analogy for that is a boxer who wins by KO because the ref decided not to acknowledge that the boxer KO'd his opponent with a hook right after a headbutt created an opening.

i agree with fat toney for the most part...this isnt bare knuckle backyard boxing..this is a noble sport...however if some **** tryd to stick his head in me (and not in a good way lol) im gona knock his ass out..floyd touched gloves with him how many times before he kod him???people are getting on as if he walked over to say sorry and floyd hit him...ortiz hugged him..then touched gloves..then kept his guard down when he was waved to box and looked at the ref..then after the left hook he still didnt raise his guard and got knocked out..i blame no one but ortiz for the fight being ended...the point im making ortiz wanted a dirty fight..and he got one

The Marquess of Queensberry would be rolling in his grave if he read that article. The thugs that endorse what Mayweather did in that fight need to stick to watching gang beatdowns on World Star Hip Hop and leave boxing to the real fans.
