Tactical fights often end up being boring affairs, but sometimes they can captivate and intrigue.

Which tactical fights, if any, had you engrossed?

Benitez vs both Hearns and Leonard. Also, the core element of Hearns - SRL was tactical, not to mention fascinating as both changed tactics.

Spinks - Qawi was a chess match, certainly on Spinks behalf.

For some reason I would never have picked Leonard-Hearns as a tactical match up, but that's a very good selection come to think of it. The shift in tactics in the fight was fascinating and brought out the lesser known qualities of the two to the fore. Certainly showed the multi-talents of both.

    Another good one JT.

    A few I'd add:

Ken Buchanan vs. Ismael Laguna II
    Johnny Famechon vs. Jose Legra
Kid Gavilan vs. Billy Graham III
Yuri Arbachakov vs. Chatchai Sasakul I

Bouts like Curry-Starling, Hagler-Duran and Zarate-Pintor were intriguing tactical battles, but I wouldn't say entertaining.

Agree on Napoles-Gray and in particular on Canto-Park.

Haven't seen the Zapata-Bassa fights. Could you give us a brief breakdown on how they transpired?

...........From what I remember, Kasparov beat Deep Blue. He lost to Deeper Blue, a revised version of Deep Blue, in a later match.

    Rematches are hell.

.............To beat a supercharged, specially designed computer that is essentially incapable of making an incorrect move speaks volumes as to how great Kasparov was. Greatest ever, I think. I hadn't heard the human grandmaster element of the Deeper Blue story, but I wonder if that could be true. What human (except maybe Anand at that point, and that's tenuous) could have hung with Kasparov?

Bassa was the aggressor in both fights, due to his significant height and reach disadvantage.

Think Napoles vs Cokes with Zapata as Cokes. Not in terms of competitiveness, but as far as the dynamic of each fighters movement goes.

In the second bout Zapata gets on his bike a lot more to try and force Bassa into chasing him in a more reckless fashion.

Very interesting fights to watch, despite both missing so much. It's a classic evenly contested pure-boxer vs balanced boxer-puncher matchup-Only unlike somethign like Benitez vs Leonard, here the pure-boxer has the physical advantages to take the boxerpuncher out of comfort zone; which is the opposite of what usually happens in these kind of fights IMO.

In the first fight, Zapata was attacked by Columbian fans about halfway through.Second time out there was a riot after the draw decision was announced.
