I don't know why, because Calzaghe would school Pavlik and win an easy UD.

im not so sure, pavlik would give joe all manner of problems for me, and he does hit very hard. the jones fight is waaaay easier imo.

As a Joe Calzaghe fan I will tell you the reason, it's not rocket science:

Joe is doubting his physical capabilities. He knows he is on the slide and that the fight with Hopkins was far less easy than he had anticipated. He is going to test himself against Jones to find out whether it was the opponent (Hopkins with his style) or else his own decline that made it such a rough night.

If the answer is the latter, expect Joe to fight Pavlik. If it's the former, expect him to retire.

This is why he is keeping one of his belts at 168 on ice.

I will also say this: why can't people appreciate that the guy is getting on a bit, especially given his styles reliance on speed and reflex? We criticise so many fighters for going on well past their best and yet we are getting on Joe's case for having a bit of savvy?

    Ridiculous really.

    Joe's fault.

He spent the bulk of his career fighting bums.

If he'd moved his career on quicker, he wouldn't have to be still having legacy defining fights at a time when he's declining.

Calzaghe is certainly no Pacquiao when it's come to being a warrior and facing the stiffest challengers.

It took him 4 years to get his trinket title and then 11 years to face a fellow champion in his own weight class.

Money money money money... It's sickening.

Oscar Diaz got about $10,000 for his last fight and Joe gets $5m a fight for fighting a grandfather.

Ignoring whatever Enzo just said, Pavlik and Loew just need to shut up and prove they are the best in their own division before taking on a great like Calzaghe. They havn't proven anything yet, other than that they can beat one guy who's credibility is very questionable, and at a stylistic advantage. Beat Abraham, or shut up.

I recall Pavlik saying he wanted to clear out 160 - until he beats Abraham he won't have done it.

It seems now Calzaghe is thinking of packing in the rules have changed.

Roy wasn't telling Joe anything, they seemed to be content to pretend one and other were non-existent.
