why do people say cocaine is not a performance enhancer? of course it is and thats why its on the banned list too. it is a stimulant like what enzo took so it would enhance performance. so guys like joe calzaghe and ricky hatton should be tarred with the same brush. i mean are people that stupid to think that they didnt use it when they were boxing? that they only used it that one time?

Don’t put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5. Coke is NOT a PED. Yes it is a stimulant but you can’t take coke on tuesday and still feel the effects on fight night Saturday.

If Calzaghe and Hatton would have been long term users it would have hurt them more than it helped them. Coke screws up your heart rate and your sinuses. Someone like Calzaghe would have had terrible nose bleeds and his stamina would have suffered. I know these things because I worked as a counselor in a rehab for a few years. The high of cocaine wears off very fast.

Trust me any fighter taking cocaine is doing more damage to his ring performance, rather than enhancing it.

slp and counter if that was true heroin and ecstacy and lsd would be on the banned list but they are not. cocaine would help like any other stimulant like ephedrine and caffeine

The only way it could possibly help is if you literally snorted a few lines right before the fight. But then in the long run it would have a detrimental affect anyway. Believe me, it really isn't a PED. It has actually ruined and shortened many a fighters career. It weakens the bones and makes you more susceptible to injury. It slows your heart rate and has irreversible effects. It messes up your blood flow in the vessels etc. It's like saying being a heavy tobacco smoker would help a marathon runner.

There's so much ignorance around this issue it's unbelievable.

I wonder how many people commenting here have actually experienced what fighters like Enzo Mac put themselves through to get in shape. Two and three workouts a day, dieting, sparring...the human body is just not built to take that kind of punishment for weeks on end. Drugs help them recover, else they'd break down.

What you see in the ring has taken months of tortuous work to achieve. At a certain age your natural testosterone levels decrease, which supplies the aggression and strength needed by elite athletes. This is probably why Enzo took what he took.

I guarantee you, he's not the only one...far from it.

As with life in general, with PEDs the sin is in getting caught. My respect for Enzo Mac has not diminished a bit with this news. I know what it takes to get in shape.

if you done coke before a fight it would improve your resistance and help you fight longer. read it in quite a few underground fight and bare knuckle books.

but if you done it a week before, wouldnt help

No one could fight in the ring on coke. Your timing, balance, and co-ordination would be off kilter, and you would burn out with the sheer rush of blood to the heart.

    It's impossible.

Both Joe and Ricky took a few lines after they retired. So ****ing what? People take the stuff by the million every week in the UK.

They're not robots, they're human beings.

That's probably the most idiotic thing I've ever read on here.

Even if they had a line right before the fight, the time between leaving the dressing room and the first bell who have outlasted the benefits of having the line.

That would all depend on the quality of gear, but this is a non issue anyway as we all know they only got caught after they'd retired, I'm sure they had the cheeky sesh in between fights mind you.To be perfectly honest aswell I don't see how coke could be used as a PED, you get really nice powder and it'll sit you the **** down and numb you the **** up to the point of not even being able to talk for a good 10 minutes.

And a question to the resident PED experts, could you please post up pictures of your degrees in sporting and medical science? Sitting on google and Wikipedia allday does not make you ****ing experts. Read the statement, take it into consideration and stop acting all high and mighty.

If he says he tested for the said chemical in the supplement, and that he'd given it to the doping agency to test .... there's a good chance he could be telling the truth, and that this is a genuine mistake.
