just saw this interview on FWs site... http://www.frankwarren.tv/drill/News/Articles/2008/01/08/video-enzo-calzaghe-haye-s-not-no-1.html i know trainers always talk up their fighters but there seems to be absolutely no respect shown to haye in that interview. he's just an "average" fighter who "is not as fast as maccarinelli". also, haye has never fought anyone like enzo but macca has fought plenty like haye! and mormeck was not the number 1 cruiserweight and never was! this is coming from the same team who were building up sellers as a "monster puncher".
Enzo Calzaghe always reminds me of Luigi from the Mario Brothers, if Luigi say had ADHD... I dont think iv ever seen Enzo Cal big up an oponent, before the fight is over that is.
Don't think Enzo Calzaghe did himself or Maccarinelli any favours with that interview. Seemed quite rattled towards the end. Credit to the interviewer who did try to redress the balance for Haye a couple of times - which didn't go down too well!
The interview is very funny, I think. Enzo clearly self-indulged a bit too much at Christmas, providing some gem lines...he was always pretty funny, without meaning to be, but this is his funniest interview to date, I think.:yep
Wow, im rooting for Enzo now. Apparently he's a big punching cruiser who is 'twice as fast' as Haye, with the stamina for an intensive twelve rounds. Not to mention his resume includes many fighters as good as Haye. Boxing needs this guy.
You don't see Haye knocking out Bobby Gunn in a round. Haye doesn't even have the balls to fight Bobby Gunn.
Lol, exactly! what was David doing when Enzo was cementing his position as number one in the division? To quote Enzo 'its the fighter who makes the belt'. Gunn looked the real deal, unlike Mormeck, which is why Haye would never fight the former WBE & IBA Cruiserweight 'Champion' Gunn.
He comes across like that but he is a very smart guy. Best trainer in the UK and in the top 3 in the world today no doubt.
What a total *****. I usually cannot stand that bird who does the interviews she has an annoying manner but at least she tried to call him on his crap. When she asks who Mac has faced that is like Haye he doesn't even answer just goes on a ridiculous drunken sounding rant about how Mac is twice as fast as Haye.atsch:-lol: So Mormeck was never the number 1 but what Marcelo Dominguez was? At the beginning notice how he talks about Haye as if he has one belt..."Enzo already has two and yes he would like to add the IBF" as if Haye is carrying one title that doesn't mean much but Mac has two parts of the undisputed. So the WBC and WBA have now been replaced in Macs mind by the WBU and WBO.:rofl:rofl What Enzo Calzaghe seems to miss is that the IBF title is not even on the ****ing line, Cunnigham has that even though in reality it should have been won from Mormeck if it were not down to politics. Your boy is fighting for the WBC and WBA titles mate and not the IBF, and no the WBU is not a part of anyones "undisputed" category.
yeah 'what a total *****' sounds spot on. He always seems an arrogant, hostile and agressive guy in interviews.....in this one he was talking utter nonsense too. and does he use English as his day to day language? or Italian? He sounds like he's had 20 pints of guinness.
I know about keeping positive for your man but you should at least show a but of respect to an opponent who deserves it, and Haye does. I remember he was basically running Kessler down before his lad fought him. There was no need and kessler proved it. He must have been taking PR lessons off Roger Mayweather.
He's clearly a good trainer but that interview was hilarious. "How much of a test is this going to be for Enzo Maccarinelli?" "The key is how much of a test is this going to be for um...err...um...err...David Haye" Maybe he was drunk?
He was clearly annoyed by Hayes interview that happened about 5 minutes before that where he said Macca offerd nothing. How can he say those belts mean nothing, did he say that to Joe when he fought for the exact same belts agaisnt Kessler. Haye does have flaws, he leaves his left hand low and is chinny, and due to the weight is not throwing so many punches and doesnt fight at a fast pace. But he is is still to good for Macceranelli.
Bull****, take Joe out of the picture and he's got a stable of fighters to match any other mediocre trainer. Don't give me that Rees bull****, or anything else. & to place him above Ingle shows little knowledge on your part. I can rhyme off 7 trainers off the top of my head that are more effective than this ignorant *****.
