Enzo Calzaghe is starting to annoy me

I can understand why though. He's obviously emotionally attached because it's his own blood plus he's not used to his son not having everything his own way in press conferences.

Enzo "without a question of a doubt" Calzaghe.

I just think he was sick of Hopkins going on and on. He needs to chill though, he's a prime canditate for a heart attack.

To be fair Joe's never really had to because most of his opponents have been respectful. The one's that haven't have just come off looking like a joke really. I do remember Joe being quite disrespectful to Eubank though. I've been trying to find that clip of when Eubank tried to have a bit of fun with Joe at ringside & Joe was acting like a bit of a wally really.

Yeah he could be a footballer the way he spouts cliche's. At the end of the day, when all is said & done, it's a game of two halves, we'll push forward together, ya know, without a question of a doubt, etc

I agree with your sentiment. In the Macca interview, Enzo was clearly drunk...in this one though, he is talking the talk, because Joe sin't gonna! Maybe his dad thinks he needs to plant the seed of doubt into Hopkins' head, to win the phy-war, prior to the battle; not that he needs to, though...

I agree that Enzo is becoming very confident indeed...but it't nothing to do with BBC trainer of the year...it's to do with the Kessler fight. Enzo and Joe, both, realised they've achieved an amazing thing that night. The strategy and execution were truly outstanding. Their confidence is, as a result, sky-high, and rightly so...it's just that the little welsh terrier shows it much more....

...he is funny though, isn't he!:D

If it was tongue-in-cheek stuff then yes, it would be funny. But he's serious.

After Joe beat Eubank, the only boxers I can think of that have been disrespectful to him have been Sheika and Salem. I remember Sheika with his team of clowns thinking they were about to become the biggest thing in boxing, absolutely laughable. Good fight that, sloppy, but entertaining.

Yeah, he's serious; his son is sometimes embarrased, like in this video, for example...but his father's confidence helps Joe a lot; Joe knows that his father always finds a way to trap his opponent. Only thing Joe needs to do is be himself and listen to his dad. They make a great team; wouldn't want to have Enzo in the opposite corner if I were a boxer...

I think the son's ability is something to consider as well though. A trainer can say whatever he wants to his boxer but he's the one that has to go into the ring to perform. Joe has unquestionable faith in his dad/trainer which helps I guess. In a way, this is a shrewd move from Enzo because he'll take all the attention and heat off Joe while he stands back and lets it all pass him by. Joe doesn't like all the attention and clams up a bit. Still, Enzo could be a little more respectful while Hopkins is not in front of him.

 Was it the Mkrtchian fight where Joe kept staring at his opponent at the end of each round with complete disdain? For some reason that really tickled me.

Haha! You're joking, right? This is all about mental warfare, and as you say, he does take the heat off Joe, who doesn't go for this kind of stuff...it's a brilliant move by Enzo, whether he does it consciously or not...:yep

He's done it on a few occasions against various opponents. Can't remember what happened against Mgrchyghn but the worst I remember was in the first fight against Veit when he went straight across the ring during his entrance and danced around Veit getting in his face. He usually does it for a reason though and against Mgrchkghyrn (who was doing OK in the fight), Joe was finding him difficult to break down. I don't think it's something he would normally do but I get the impression tries to get his opponents to fights with him mentally as well.

I don't remember the build up to the first Veit fight I just remember him getting annihalated & lying back into the corner looking shell shocked.

That Mkrtchian one I found funny though because Joe was kind of looking at him as if to say "you shouldn't be in here with me" and looking at him as he walked back to his corner.
