A **** trainer and I believe that Joe could have been a lot more if he'd have had a proper boxing coach. The only thing he could do was motivate his fighters to be physically fit. No sparring for fights :yikes

Very limited technical coaching ability and ran his mouth far to often. I hope he stays quiet now he's out of the game unlike his son who can't seem to handle not having a limelight.

 

JC got him the award, its pretty much like RJJ and his dad.

 

Frank Warren got him the award. Careful matchmaking for his Son, Rees and Macarrenelli allowed him to have 3 world champions in a gym which deserved one world champion TOPS

 

Sad to see him go to be honest. A very good character for the sport.

 

i think you will find the year he won it he got 2 more world champions.

my underlying memory of him as before the last round of the hopkins fight, screaming at JC to get the KO, and it took Dean Powell to calm him down a bit.

i wonder where Pryce and Rees will go to train and be promoted.

 

I think when Joe retired his heart went out of it, he only really carried on because of Calzaghe Promotions.

Regardless of whether they were paper champions or deserved to call themselves world champions, to have 3 world champions out of the same little ramshack of a gym in wales at the same time is a massive accomplishment.

Whilst i dont agree with his training methods, for a man with no history in the sport to achieve what he did was remarkable IMO. A crazy little man and a great character, i think boxing could do with more like him.

 

Enzo Calzaghe says Enzo Maccarinelli can end David Haye's career in Saturday's cruiserweight unification clash at London's O2 Arena.

"Haye has been foolish in choosing this fight," coach Calzaghe told the BBC's Sport Wales TV show. "He'll not just get beaten, he'll get battered.

"His only, single hope is a sucker punch, everyone can get lucky with one.

"But I hope he drops early, for his sake. If it's longer it'll be slaughter and I don't think Haye will box again."

 

Great character for certain... amazing achievements all things considered. He wasn't one of the great trainers by any strech, he had a talented son and that allowed him to get his other fighters 80-20 bouts. That said Pryce, Rees and Macca can bloody fight so he certainly didn't ruin them- done a great job. He should be very proud.

He achieved a massive amount considering his background. He brought with him work ethic which is a key thing in boxing. His fighters always turned up in shape which is why they always had a chance. Met him recently at the prizefighter Rees won and he seemed like a nice guy.

They weren't World Champions, those were paper champions and short lived ones at that.

 

Im no Calazaghe fan but for a guy with no boxing history in a tin shed in a field to get the achievements his boys did is pretty f**kin good going. His guys always turned up in shape too
