Enzo Calzaghe sentenced to 2 years for Disability Benefit Fraud at Cardiff Crown

Enzo Calzaghes case for Disability Benefit Fraud finally came to a conclusion this week.

Jury found him Guilty on all charges.

Judge Justice Roy Smith passed a sentence of 2 years imprisonment to be serve at Swansea Prison.

The prosection told how Mr Calzaghe - a immigrant from Italy -

*Lied to the Department for Work and Pensions he was disabled when he was really a active Boxing Trainer taking part in runs

*Claimed illegally over £50,000 worth of benefit over a decade

*Had full access to a Vauxhall People Carrier for a decade as a Mobilty Transport Benefit


The Prosecution also added that Mr Calzaghe had broken the law Twice on the same night from the Vauxhall People Carrier........

On the night of 8th March 2008 Mr Calzaghes Vechcile was invovled in a litter throwing incident which led to a fine.

Some time later - Mr Cazlaghes People Carrier - registrain W459 OPS - was caught on a Speed Camera doing 54 mph in a 30 mph zone in Central London -
Mr Calzaghe claimed he was in a rush to get to a fight in which one of his fighters - Enzo Maccarinelli was competing in that night.

He was fined £200 for the litter drop and £60 speeding fine and given 3 points.

Passing sentence today at Cardiff Crown Court.........

Judge Justice Roy Smith said............

"Mr Calzaghe you are a disgrace to this country. You have done well with your little side line part time hobbie of boxing and thought it would be ok to claim benefit on the side. The Law takes a dim view of those who commit Benefit Fraud espcially for one strecthing so long and costing the Taxpayer so much money - you also had no real disabilty for justification of having a brand new people carrier - and I must punish you with a Jail Sentence of 2 years"
