Just seen his face, what a mess! As others have already said, he got battered by Haye and it seems to have had a profound effect. He lived in the shadow of Calzaghe for years and padded his record out with easy wins but the minute he fought someone half decent (Haye) he got found out. That's now 3 defeats in his last 4 fights. Time to call it a day Enzo.
Didnt have anything to do with that fight. All that showed was the gulf in class. It was VERY apparent from an early stage when he struggled immensely with Bruce Scott that Enzo never had the tools to go far. That was compounded even more when he won and defended the WBU against a plethora of nobodies. I blame SN for giving him a false pretense. Shame as he's a decent kid.
I still think that, probably as recently as 2006, there was potential there for Enzo to improve and develop properly. Instead he got too many of the wrong opponents, the ones that he wouldn't learn the right lessons from, and started to believe in his own hype. Probably fuelled a lot by Enzo Calzaghe, on an all-time high of self-belief from that time onwards. Getting clobbered by Swaby he could write off as a mistake. Suffering an even quicker knockout loss to Haye, and then the doubts really creep in. Third time he falls, to Afolabi, and how he's mentally out of the game. Lebedev is decent but not outstanding, yet he seems to have crushed Enzo. Retirement really does seem the sensible option.
After fighting near the top of the bill (and in big bills) it must have been ****ing tricky fighting in an empty arena before you would normally have tea. After all he had had given Warren, you would have thought he would have been further up the bill than the Olympians!?
Report, and a gruesome pic of Enzo... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/8157689.stm Terrible shame, he always seemed a really sound guy and if I does retire, I wish him all the best.
Bless him. I saw his eye, and for a three round fight that was brutal. Poor *******. Thats what the Haye loss did to him.
"He's a nice guy" Who give's a ****? His eye does look messed up though... I completely agree with the comments about the Haye fight, not because other opponents then knew his weaknesses but because he did. Shame, he was one of the best finishers I've seen in a while but if his heart's no longer innit then it's better he gets out now especially in his weight division
not exactly spoiling the result for you guys since they didn't show the fight. Inless of course your thinking it will be put on fw.tv
