Great thread - I miss the days of 15 round championship fights. There was just a symmetry, for lack of a better phrase, to the idea of a fighter’s career being defined by what took place in one hour; a span of time anyone can relate to. It’s one thing to work hard for 48 minutes; those additional 12 minutes were championship rounds. How many fights would have changed outcomes with the addition or subtraction of those 12 minutes?
Jel, you beat me to it with Palomino-Muniz I. I also liked @Saintpat mention of Antuofermo-Hagler I. I would also add: Robinson-Basilio I Herrera-Borkorsor Conteh-Ahumada Myung Woo Yuh - Mario DeMarco I
One that comes to mind is Mike Weaver-John Tate When this topic comes up, I usually take into account that fighters know how many rounds are left so they react differently, so guys like SRL (Hearns 1) may have turned up the pace quicker in a 12 rounder. But this didn’t seem to be the case with Weaver-Tate. Weaver didn’t seem to really turn up the pace in desperation at the end. He just caught Tate with a great shot (combo really, he had a good body shot right before the left hook).
