In other pro sports, such as hockey, there's the practice of retiring a player's number league-wide like in the case of Wayne Gretzky's 99 . Does/can/will anything equivalent or similar exist in boxing?

does such a thing exist outside of team based sports? Either way I don’t see what could be done outside of HOF and award based recognition? Unless it could be considered for example, retiring Black Trunks in honor of Tyson? Or some other outlandish idea?

I don’t think anything currently exists.

Robinson and Ali both preferred white with black trim (though so did like half the guys from those eras) and they’re the closest to boxing royalty in my opinion, so maybe the new guys should avoid trying to fill those boots.

although those colours together in a similar style is pretty rare from what I can tell.

Just local hall of fames and the old-time ring announcer introducing past champions and other greats in the ring prior to a fight. The latter is not done anymore is it? Too much phony hype going on to bother with tradition.
