Yea, which is why he ducked Manny, saying he's on vacation then left GBP to lie to the world for them and now they gonna go to war with HBO for his ducking. Right, Floyd beats him so soundly he went on vacation.
I would say this is pretty close. Although Vitali is getting old, he is still pretty dominating people. Holyfield's prime ended probably 15 years ago and is old enough to be Vitali's father.
Great thread...like many other said, anyone FMJ or Pac loses to short of a Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez will be a pretty big upset, but not on a Douglas-Tyson scale. That was a monumental upset, one of the biggest in sports history, not just boxing history.
That and Vitali has a solid chin. Ko'ing him would be a incredibly tough task. If Holyfield ever did ko him I would be in shock probably.
Maybe something like Marcus Rhodes beating Wladimir K Wlad is many levels above a guy like Ray Austin but was probably only a 4 to 1 fave Tyson was 42-1 so this would mean a real real bum
That's true about Douglas. He came into the Tyson fight with 35 fights behind him (31 (19KO) 4-1-1)Three years prior to Tyson he fought (and was TKO in 10) by Tony Tucker for the IBF title. He then won three consecutive fights, including Trevor Berbick and Oliver McCall (both UD 10). He KO'ed Tyson in 10 and less than year later he lost to Holyfield, and over the next 9 years won 8 of 9 fights before he retired. Tyson was steamrolling the HW division. You can't compare that to Haye, who isn't steamrolling ****. It would be more like Carlos Baldomir KO'ing Floyd during their fight, or Pacman losing to Juan Diaz. And I recently met someone who was working Douglas camp during that time, and who had trained Buster Douglas father, Bill Douglas, and had worked with Ezzard Charles prior to that. He was telling me that their camp was hopeful that Tyson would underestimate Douglas, which is partially what happened. Everyone else expected a 1st rnd KO, but Tyson partied all night before hand and Douglas came to fight AND Tyson underestimated Douglas. Those three things led to be giant upset.
Holyfield is 9 years older than Vitali. I know he's got a few dozen kids, but did he really start that early? :yep
i think sergio martinez would have a pretty good shot at beating either floyd or manny. he's the only guy who's gonna come close. williams would be up there too, but it's much less likely.
