DeAndrey Abron?WTF??? It is common that some champions are ducking fighters from TOP5, but Erdei is ducking EVERYONE from the TOP25!!!Or even first forty, he is a joke. Maybe he wants to break Joe Louis record in consecutive title defences
erdei is a good fighter, kohl his matchmaker is simply not willing it seems to give him any high profile fighters at all. but erdei does not sell as well as most of kohl top of the bill fighters and kohl is bleeding every last penny from his fights from the tv company`s. erdei actually was booed for a time v mendoza, very rare outside of hoffman fights in germany.
This is why the more credible sanctioning bodies strip fighters, and why I don't hold the linear title to such high regard.
You can blame his promoter but Erdei does have a say also.We have been discussing this same thing for a few years now.If he truly wanted to fight an A level fighter he could have kicked and screamed to get the fight but you dont see that from him.And at worst you leave your promoter like some fighters do. He doesnt have the desire to push himself.
This match-up shouldn't come as a surprise, coming as it does from the land that gave the "world" unbeaten legends like Sven Ottke.
Erdei is a joke and truly a classic example of why the lineal belt isn't the end-all for evaluating the best fighter in a division. As far as I'm concerned, the WBO belt doesn't even exist in this division.
Im not justifying DeAndrey as an opponent for Zsolt but he is the WBO NABO Champion which gives him a Top 15 ranking within the WBO which is how he probably got this title shot. He could be ranked 100 in the world but if he gets himself ranked with the WBO he can earn a title shot! Still Zsolt's team shouild be trying to fight better guys. Why not offer Roy Jones Jnr a shot, would make more sense $$ wise and Zsolt has a half decent chance of at least winning it, win that fight then hes a much more known name thus can fight bigger fights for more $$. Jones would probably take the fight also as he'll no doubt see it as the easiest title fight out there for him
Erdei is actually a pretty decent fighter. He doesn't do anything that stands out, but does a variety of things well. His jab is one of the better ones in his weight class. Unfortunately, his promoter isn't willing to match him up with real threats. So is he a paper champion? Absolutely
I totally agree with you. Erdei is a joke, and it's not even funny... the worst thing is that he's actually a good fighter and could be competitive against fighters like Clinton Woods or Danny Green, but no... he's content fighting C-class opponents. What a waste of talent...
This division is kinda poor. I still follow it tho. Look at the WBO rankings. 1. Bernard Hopkins (fighting Joe Cal) 2. Roy Jones, Jr. (Jones won't fight in Germany) 3. Thomas Ulrich (he just got owned recently, plus Erdei beat him b4.) 4. Antonio Tarver (fighting Woods) 5. Adrian Diaconu (fighting Henry) So it has to be one of these guys: 6. DeAndrey Abron 7. Hugo Garay 8. Aleksy Kuziemski 9. Tavoris Cloud 10. Paul Briggs (pretty much is done with boxing)
Well... Jones actually will fight in Germany but for good money in a low-risk fight against Markus Beyer... I don't see Universum putting down half as much as Öner offered for Jones and Erdei in 2008 is at least 2 times more dangerous than Beyer... so it's easy... Jones wanted a tune-up before the Taylor (Calzaghe) fight, and instead of worrying about the USA PPV sales (whether it's 8 or 12.000 buys), he's gonna get a load of money...
