http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/wilder-molina-confirmed-290865 Wilder-Molina confirmed (updated) WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, WBC #9 contender Eric Molina (via Skype) and executives from DiBella Entertainment, the City of Birmingham, the Alabama Athletic Commission and Bruno Event Team will hold a press conference Thursday to officially announce Wilders first title defense against Molina on June 13 at the Bartow Arena. Showtime will televise. Note: Molina just moved up to #9 in the latest WBC ratings, making him the top available challenger for Wilder. #1 Alexander Povetkin and #2 Mike Perez meet next week in a WBC eliminator. #3 Tyson Fury is the WBA and WBO mandatory challenger for Wladimir Klitschko. #4 Vyacheslav Glazkov is the IBF mandatory for Klitschko. Wilder just fought #5 Bermane Stiverne in his last fight. #6 Anthony Joshua has made it clear hes only fighting journeymen in the immediate future. #7 Bryant Jennings fought Klitschko less than three weeks ago. #8 Lucas Browne is on the shelf waiting for a mandatory challenge against WBA regular champion Ruslan Chagaev, who already has another fight scheduled (Browne took step-aside money). see not a bad 1st defence for Wilder - he's picked a top 10 guy...what else do you want from him ? 1st voluntary defence and he's gone for a guy in the top 10. Lets not question that Molina has just mysteriously jumped the ratings from 12 to 9. That's just boxing....
Was just thinking when I saw that thread title, in wich rankings? He was indeed 12th a couple of days ago when I checked. This is as blatant as it comes, just like Audley suddenly showing up in the WBA top15 (even surpassing a guy that had actually fought and won in the meantime) updated rankings when the rumors of the Haye fight were really taking serious form.
Anthony Joshua ranks #6 in those rankings, by beating a total of 12 tomato cans. WBC ranking is a joke. Wilder lost a lot of respect with this. "#4 Vyacheslav Glazkov is the IBF mandatory for Klitschko." Glazkov is not fighting Klitschko next. Wilder could beat him too but it would at least be worth watching. I wont even stay up late to watch the Molina nonsense live.
Joshua is just learning, Wilder is the joke taking on Gavern after 30 pro fights when Joshua has already beat him in 11. Wilder vs Molina for a world title, ****ing hell.
As a first defense, it's okayish... But this does highlight the absolute absurdity that is the WBC ranking system
