Prime for Prime who wins this? This was a potential fight at one point because Hamed called out Morales after the Kelly fight. But we all the know the story, Hamed fought Barrera first and got his ass, pride and carreer handed to him over 12 masterful rounds thus ruining a shot at a Morales/Hamed showdown.
Morales is way too skilled for Hamed. He could outbox him easily. If he goes to war with him its maybe 70/30 Morales since he is a better fighter but Hamed's power was unreal and even tought Morales is tough as nails Im not sure how he would take nasseem's punches. Morales UD
Morales aint no Kelley, he wont knock Hamed down 3 times just to let him get away.. Erik is elite! remember! one of the greatest of all times..theres no need to explain strategies Hamed was an awkward fighter. Heres an analogy, Hamed as Donald Curry. Curry fell from grace after Honeyghan ruined him just liek Hamed against MAB. Still I would give Curry a much better chance against elite competition like say a SRL. My point..Curry had freakish speed and power just like Hamed, down right scary (p4p#1) but besides all that, he had great fundamentals and footwork, was also a fantastic defensive fighter. Hamed relied heavily on reflexes. You dont hear much about Curry in these boards, I wished I didnt hear as much about Hamed either
Hamed wanted no parts of Morales...and only chose barrera because he saw him as the easier of 2 options. Agree with RealIzm same result as the barrera fight but a late KO is a strong possibility here. Hamed was good, but out of class here!
90% of people will pick Morales. I feel like I should bring this point up, though -- Barrera modified his style for Hamed. He boxed off the back foot in a clinical and perfectly controlled fashion. Even when he staggered Hamed (and he did this on multiple occasions) he would back off, and I recall the Merchant/Foreman/Lampley crew picking up on this too. Why would Barrera keep backing off when Hamed was clearly off balance and possibly hurt? Because Barrera was smart, and Barrera knew that he would be playing directly into Hamed's hands (or gloves, rather) by jumping in, guns blazing. Kevin Kelley found this out the hard way, and Barrera was far too clever to repeat the same mistake. He kept his distance and boxed Hamed's ears off for 12 embarassing rounds. Now, the question we have to ask ourselves -- would Morales be as controlled as Barrera? Would Morales resist a slugfest? I'm not sure, one way or the other, but I do think that Morales had more of a machismo streak that would mean that if Hamed taunted him (as he did to Barrera) and if he staggered Hamed (as Barrera did to Hamed) then he WOULD try and go in, guns blazing. The Pacman fight is a useful point of evidence here -- Morales loves to slug it out. He hates the kind of Zahir Raheem fight -- he WANTS to get lured into that man-to-man brutal type fight. The inescapable truth here is that against Hamed (who I think hits harder than Pacman, especially in single shot KO power) this could very well get him knocked out. Yes, even iron-chinned Eric -- Hamed was many things, and had many flaws to his game, but power certainly wasn't one of them. He was frighteningly powerful. End result -- I go with Morales via UD, but I don't think it would be anywhere near as easy as people are making out. I wouldn't be surprised if Hamed caught him with a freak punch and put him down at least once during the fight.
It's also worth noting that Hamed has never been knocked out (technically or otherwise) and that the majority, if not all of the times he was knocked down was due to bad balance (his odd leaning away/swaying style set him up for this).
Morales would beat Hamed cause he can box but it would be alot closer then Hamed-Barrera because Morales doesnt have nearly as much mental displine as MAB does and hed get hit alot more then MAB did. This would kinda resemble Pacquiao-Morales 1 in a way.
You have to have a different perspective..AT the time if they ever fought. Hamed had been down a few times..Morales had not been. Only on old legs did he find the canvas. Its a glass 1/2 full 1/2 empty scenario...I take my chances Erik decking Hamed and not letting him out ala kelley who was an A level guy but B level fighter any way you slice it. People seem to forget that Erik was 35-0 with 30 KOs at the MAB fight, thats as good a ratio as Prince yet Erik was a wonderful boxer as well, his KOs ratio clearly underhyped
That's the way I see it playing out, but my gut feeling is that Hamed would have caught Morales at some point and KO'd him. Erik's response to getting hit hard was to wade in and try to hit you back. That is not how you want to fight Hamed, who threw power shots from crazy angles. Like you said, the question is whether or not El Terrible would be able to adjust his style as MAB did.
