This was the best weight for both fighters. I think Erik's height, jab, and right hand would give Gomez problems, and eventually get dropped, but Gomez would rise from the knockdown, and probably knockout Morales. If Morales decided to box Gomez, he might win, but the world knows Morales was very prone to get lured into fights, and going toe to toe with Gomez back then was the equal of going toe to toe with the Pacman today. In another words it was almost suicide. Gomez was very heavyhanded and not only had a right hand as devastating as Morales, but he had a beautiful left hook to the body similar to Barrera's. He was also a great finisher so if he saw Morales hurt there was a good chance Gomez would finish him. This is not an easy choice, but mostly the reason I'd pick Gomez over Morales in 122lbs is just that Gomez had beaten the much better opposition at 122 than Morales did. Sure, Morales beat Zaragosa, the man that also beat Zarate, but Zarate was way past it when he took on Zaragosa, who was in his prime. I think Morales vs. a prime Zarate would be another interesting matchup.

 Yea man I got mad respect for both of them too. Damn I just hope someone gets finished with that time machine to settle Sanchez vs. Chavez, Pacquiao, Barrera, Pep, and Arguello once and for all!

I think Gomez is just a level above Erik and would pound out either a pretty clear decision or a possible late mercy stoppage.

But I think he had the tendency to get dragged into wars himself..I think this suits Erik and he would certainly land his fair share along the way.

Brutal, career shortening fight for both guys but I truly feel Gomez is the better fighter, not by a hell of a lot but enough.

Holy crap.I wanna say Gomez so bad.AWESOME FIGHT.This is when you know we are talking ATG's.Truly they would have to split some fights.I don't know, technically Morales has everything on him,almost.WOW.One for the ages.Better yet they both lose. They each end the fight with sh!t down their leg.

Wow thanks for refreshing my mind on how great a prime Gomez was, just so fluid and hardhitting a great offensive arsenal and had good boxingskills too. As for Morales well he is a great fighter and in my top 60 of all time, but i have to go with Gomez here not sure if he could stop Morales but its a possibility. That being said i only make Gomez a slight favorite. At 126 Morales wins at 130 hed whup Gomez bad as he was faded by then.
