Another fourth round stoppage where the ref just seemed like he was sick of the 1-way traffic.

I'm not sure what possessed Sánchez to adopt the nickname "Pacman", considering he boxes orthodox and doesn't have a lick of handspeed or power.

Marte btw is a former top dog on the Dominican amateur team, beating fellow unbeaten prospect Yan Carlos Pérez in the quarterfinals of their last tourney before turning pro. (Marte ultimately took silver)

Got a hunch it's Rodríguez's night.

 

Vivian is a 7-0 (3) local lass from Santo Domingo.

Magali "Tormenta" Rodríguez brings a 25-7-4 (11) record from Mexico.

 

The visitor won via TKO9. Surprisingly the local crowd was gracious to her and gave the Mexican some love, nice to see.

No idea what happened to Noel Antonio Reyes Cepeda vs. Liborio Solís Maturet for the WBA Gold super bantamweight title - it's either been canceled, or it's the main event, I guess? Just rewound through every bout in the YouTube feed and it didn't already happen.

John Karl Sosa hasn't fought, either.

Ref scuffing what appears to be a wet spot off the canvas with his shoe. Not a great sign.

 

Round 1

Valdez is holding up his left palm to catch Rosa's quick high southpaw jab. Valdez tossing some right hands lunging in. Rosa backsteps to dodge and responds with a straight left, which also doesn't reach. They're feeling each other out. Rosa advances. Valdez leaps in flurrying high to avoid being trapped in a corner. Rosa sidesteps. Nothing clean landed by either man halfway through the opening round. 1-1-2 into the guard by Rosa. Reach-in body jab by Valdez. Lead right by Valdez, close but no cigar. Valdez jabs out at Rosa, then abruptly hooks wide off the jab but Rosa leaps clear of it. Rosa eats a right hand while ducking away. Valdez repeats the sequence, this time grazing Rosa's chest with the right. Rosa with a right jab into the arms, then a left uppercut below, grazing past Valdez's elbows.

Round 2

Valdez is getting confident, opening up with very fat hooks. Rosa is catching them on the back of his right glove or ducking away, then boomeranging in with counter 1-2s. Valdez gets a piece of Rosa with a looping right in a flurry. Mexican really letting his hands go and not allowing Rosa to think he'll coast on volume. Rosa begins to place sharp accurate right hooks on the body, backing Valdez into the ropes. Crowd getting hot. BIG overhand right by Valdez, staggers Rosa backward to let Valdez escape his predicament on the ropes. Just under a minute left. Hard lefts on the body by Rosa. Valdez in trouble on the ropes again. Valdez jabbing and hooking lightly to lull Rosa, waiting for his next big shot to surprise him with. Right hook and left hand by Rosa, scoring flush, and Valdez flurries into his face.
