Co-main event to Alberto Puello Calderón vs. Jesús Antonio Rubio Valdez, this coming Wednesday in Santo Domingo. Intriguing battle of Latin American unbeaten prospects being elevated far above their professional experiential stature with a world title on the line (sort of... the WBA interim at 105lbs). Rosa, of the Dominican Republic, has literally only had three pro bouts and before that only had five in the amateurs...with a losing record. 2-3. No, that isn't just what's listed on BoxRec and they're missing a bunch. Literally only those five - yet he is generating hype, impressing journos, and is ranked WBA #2 (and until being recently displaced from its top 15 altogether, was ranked as high as #9 by the WBC). His opponent has thrice as much experience (measured in pro matches...five times as many rounds boxed). He also, however, is venturing outside the República del Perú for the first time and has never really been tested, and even at domestic level smashing cans has only racked up 4 stoppages for a 19% kayo rate. He managed to pick up the WBA's minimumweight gold title, so he's their #5. The bar to get world-ranked at straw is pretty low. Has anybody watched these guys?
