iv seen alot around this website about how he shouldnt fight so high up at 147 but lets be honest if he is serious about giving it another go hes in his 30's hes 5'8 its not physichally possible to go lower sop why not go into a fight with the fighters chance instead of the weight drained ghost that stepped in against pacquiao and even diaz since he had to spend most his time on the ropes

He could get away with fighting No hopers at welter but he should try and get down to LW even then his days are gone. If he wants a payday he should fight Marquez and get out, although i dont think he will need much convincing after a fight with Marquez.

I thought the fight was at 140??

Still, I always had a suspicion he'd end up at a much higher weight, given his huge frame at 122.

The fight vs Alfaro will be at 142 lbs, officially within the WW limit but if he wins, his future plans are to get down to the 140 limit to try for a record (Mexican record that is) 4th weight title.

As much as i love Erik Morales, his best days are very much behind him. I wouldn't give him a chance against the top tier boxers or top contenders.

i think he did the right thing by taking a break, he always was going to come back, I can't wait if he wins impressively then he might have a good few more years ahead of him

He should win this one, but against A level fighter hes done unless he can pull a SRL and impress the judges.

I hope Morales looks to line up a last big payday or two and then hangs them up. Guys like Barrera, JMM, Casamayor, or maybe even Hatton would be guys he should look to fight and then get out. I really don't want to see him used as a name for someone like Bradley, Valero, etc. I've always like Morales but he's been in a lot of brutal fights and is way past his best. I can see Morales-Barrera 4 happening in the next 9-12 months.

Thanks, the 147 thing threw me. He's already something of a Mexi record-holder across the weights, he knocked down guys in title fights at 122, 126, 130 and 135.

I think this layoff will have done him a power of good, plus Alfaro isn't bad but at his ATG peak Erik would have destroyed him.

Erik by wide UD, hopefully a knock-down in there for that 5-weight bragging right.

:good Im with you on this.

Ps. Cheers for the info on the KD`s, I knew he had scored numerous KD`s at 122 & 126 & I knew he floored Chavez twice at 130 & Diaz once at 135 but I never knew no other Mexican had done this :think

Lets hope he becomes the 1st Mexican to win titles in 4 weight classes (he already should be IMO, I thought he beat Diaz TBH) because he deserves to be separated from other Mexicans... not because I think he`s the best - that belongs to Julio C Chavez - but because his style & attributes were so unique & different.... he deserves that little extra to be recognized & remembered when discussing the greats.
