Erik Morales will end a 17-month ring absence against Jorge Paez Jr. in a welterweight bout on March 22 at Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico, according to Sean Gibbons of Zanfer Promotions.

Morales (52-9, 36 knockouts), a 37-year-old former four-division titleholder who has lost three of his past four fights, was last in the ring in October of 2012 for a fourth-round knockout loss to RING junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia.

Paez (37-4-1, 22 KOs), the 26-year-old son of the popular former featherweight beltholder, has won 10 straight fights, five of them by stoppage, since losing split decision to Jose Lopez in May of 2001.

Morales-Paez will be contested at a contracted weight of 144 pounds.

Paez Jr. Is going to batter Erik & it will be sad to see.
"Maromerito" has upped his game since he started to take his craft alot more seriously.

Morales has been on reserve for the last ten years or so tho only 37, in boxing years dude is like 90. Would be perfect for EM to go out with a win...

Tho much like Evander a win would Prob convince the vet to continue.

Very selfish, but part of me hopes he loses and retires for good just so I can say I saw his final victory in the ring.

Why does he campaign at such a high weight? Wasn't his prime when he was in the Super-Bantam and Featherweight Divisions? Was he one of those guys who have a late growth spurt in their mid or even late 20's? I remember reading someone say he has been as much 180lbs between fights...
Weight fluctuations confuse me, they just seem so detrimental to a fighter...

The only bout for him I'd be interested in is a bout with Marquez as long as there both roided to the gills.

he is only 37 yo. he just needs a good training camp. get a feather fisted opponent. he is good to go.

if floyd can cherry pick for 40m, why not erik?

i think he can beat malignaggi if he is serious on his training.
