I went down to Tijuana to interview Erik Morales in June of 2005 for KO magazine. We met up at a Mexican seafood restaurant and had lunch. At the time Erik was coming off his win over Manny Pacquiao and asked me what I thought about Floyd Mayweather. I told him I thought Mayweather was the best fighter in the world and Erik told be that hed give Floyd la pelea más chingada de su vida, which more or less translates to the toughest f---in fight of his life. source: www.***********.com
Morales at his best at 130 could possibly trouble Floyd, I feel as though Floyd wasnt as smart a fighter back then. Id Still pick Floyd UD though.
i think people will be scewed here because weve grown accustomed to seeing less then best morales, with pac, pac2, pac3, and diaz... but prime morales was a ****ing beast of a man.
Sadly Morales was way past his best by the time he got to 130 . I get your point though and I agree Morales would give him hell. I like Floyds greater accuracy to take it though
PBF's speed of both hand and foot would be too much for Morales. Morales was a beast, but he was a beast in ways that troubled a different kind of fighter. Analyze this objectively- PBF's strengths at this weight were worse for the style of Morales then his strenghts were for the style PBF. Although past his prime, we saw what an outside fighter like Rahim could do by keeping distance and not engaging with Morales. Now you can't compare that Morales to the prime one, I KNOW THAT, but the mental frustration of a guy who would only engage in spurts (and do so with speed and power rarely seen at 130lbs) is all wrong for Morales.
the problem with this thread is that Morales was past his best at 130lbs. he was a beast when he was a little bit lighter and he was very fast powerful and was tricky. Aren't they both about 5'8 or so?? I can't remember if Morales is that tall but he does have long arms and could throw at weird angles. I think Floyd would beat him...We never seen Floyd around 120lbs to be able to make a comparison. But I think it would have been a pretty good fight.
I have heard rumors they did spar together before and Morales did really well. I have no idea if its true, but of course they were both under Bob Arum for a long time so maybe they did some sparring back in the day. The only problem with any of this is that Morales was at his best at 122-126. By the time he was at 130 he was past his best and I think PBF was up at 135 by that time. Summary - they were never at the same weight at the same time to begin with, PBF was always bigger so he has a huge advantage and would have won in a 12 round fight.
