No. He did not. Ever. In his entire career.

Either way, my point was that he was a lesser defensive fighter in his younger days (while being superior offensively) at 122, which is where this fight would take place. He showed some fine technical defensive/counter-punching showings in his latter years circa 130, but never against any high level operator.

Watch his fight with an ancient Daniel Zaragoza. Dreadful defensive showing, although his offensive skills eventually overwhelmed the old man.

Raheem faced a past prime Morales at 130, not very indicative of a matchup between Donaire and Morales at 122 aside from the fact that it exposed Morales's defensive flaws (as did most other fights, really). Raheem was landing with the right hand ad nauseam, and even had Morales rocked a couple of times. I have no doubt Donaire would do some fine countering in this fight, but at the end of the day my analysis stands. Morales just too strong, too offensively competent, and too determined to let a contest be decided entirely on the counter-punching/pot-shotting skills of his foe at this weight.

Yes, you're right, which makes it even more of a disadvantage for Morales. He definitely looked more puffy than usual from what I recall.

Even if he does, Morales isn't going out.

I've never seen Donaire's chin really tested, so I dunno if EM stops him or just outpoints him, but I'm going with Erik. Fighters like EM, JMM and MAB don't come along all that often. We shouldn't mistake the flavor of the day for an ATG everytime someone new comes along.

I was ringside for that fight and I have been for several of Erik's fights. Trust me, Erik wasn't there at ALL that night. The only thing you can take from that fight is that Erik shouldn't have been in the ring with anyone at that point.

really? watch his fights against maidana, barerra and pac and tell me his head movement along the ropes isn't brilliant.as i said he just never used it.he used it more in the cano fight when he was taking too many shots as well.

a guy who has never been stopped by anyone except pacquiao must have more than a good chin

although i agree with your 122 assesment,he took too many unneccessary shots

The greatest or what ever people say, atg, the Pacman loss to Morales.People who think Runito can go toe-to-toe with Morales are crazy. Nonito will most likely pot shot and would have applied the slick american style of Boxing and run. Morales by wide UD or TKO.

Even though I think Erik Morales was slightly undercooked at Super Bantamweight, his toughness and punch output should be enough to win the day here. Nonito has speed, technique, and respectable power, but he's never been near a ring with anyone as good as Erik. It's strange. You could be forgiven for thinking whilst watching Morales, "this guy is getting tagged. He isn't that good". But he's going to be throwing a lot of punches in bunches, and he's going to take your best shot and respond each and every time. Physically as well as mentally, this has to be very draining over the course of a 12 round fight.

Although not the unbeatable demon some say Morales was at 122lbs, he should still win more rounds than Donaire.

What makes you say Morales was offensively superior at 122lbs, El?
