Erik Morales vs. Francisco Lorenzo RBR

Round 6

Lorenzo slaps with some hard hooks. Morales backs off and jabs. Lorenzo is warned for something - leading with his head, maybe? Lorenzo starts peppering Morales with shots on the ropes and Morales tries to do a James Toney impersonation, rolling his shoulders and taking lots of clean punches to the head. Morales spins Lorenzo around and starts throwing his own power combo, cheered on all the while. Lorenzo runs in and presses against Morales and spanks him on the back with his free right glove. Morales chops him with a 1-2 after they separate, but Lorenzo keeps trying to get through and back to the inside. Morales jabs him from range and keeps him off. Lorenzo flicks up his own jab and starts rolling around from the waist up, using different angles to try and get in.

Round 7

Morales backs up and lands jabs and uppercuts as Lorenzo comes forward with a frenzied slapping attack. Lorenzo ducks down and tries to land to the body with jabs and rights, then pulls up and slaps with hooks. Morales blocks most of this and keeps backing slowly up, jabbing and turning.

Round 8

Morales jabs and hooks from mid-range. Lorenzo tries to swarm his way inside using a submarine approach, diving down and breaching at Morales' chest to grab and hit with a free arm. Morales is backed into a corner but fights back. Uppercut on the inside from Morales with his back on the ropes. Another nice uppercut from Morales

 

Round 9

Lorenzo keeps it rough with lots of slapping shots that result in some forearm landing along with knuckle. Morales tries to dance his way free of the constant clinch-and-bang attempts and wild swings of Lorenzo to get into long jabbing range. Morales hops on his toes but is a step too slow as Lorenzo keeps wailing away at him and catching him to clap him on the body and side of the head.

Round 10

Lorenzo leaps in with hooks and slapping overhand rights, driving Morales back. Morales keeps leaning in and turning a shoulder out as Lorenzo gets close, anticipating the clinch and trying to leave himself at an angle to work at least one of his hands. Lorenzo slaps with a body hook. Morales is letting his hands go but getting suffocated by Lorenzo. Short right hand by Morales lands hard. Lorenzo walks right through and keeps bombing away with uppercuts and hooks. Neither has a ton of snap on their punches at this point. Morales lands an uppercut and Lorenzo turns his back on him and gets hit a couple more times with cupping underhand punches. Morales keeps trying to punch free and make it a mid-range brawl.

Round 11

Morales is a little negative to start off and is actually getting booed by the Mexican faithful (or maybe it's just the lack of action in general). Lorenzo is certainly the more active fighter at the moment, winging jabs and right hands from his low crouch. Lorenzo's mouthpiece comes out and the action is paused to get it back in. Morales is pushing Lorenzo away and trying to time a 1-2 but looking slow. Morales swipes with a curving right hand to the body and misses. Lorenzo runs forward and clips Morales in the belly with a low hook on the way into a brief tie-up. Lorenzo is ripping rights to the body and slapping Morales' face with his left. Morales just can't pull the trigger this round and is constantly beaten to the punch. Nice uppercut at the very end of he round by Morales, and he starts building off of it into a combo moving backwards. Another nice uppercut.

It most certainly is.

It might be a worse mismatch than Pac-JMM III at 147lbs would be.

 

Round 12

Furious action!! Most of it is instigated by Lorenzo swinging away with crazy reckless side-to-side shots with his wingspan fully extended, as Morales just tries to punch right through the middle despite Lorenzo's head bobbing around. They slow down a bit and are alternately booed and then cheered as both start throwing punches again. Lorenzo throws some soft arm punches almost backhanded into the belly of Morales. Lorenzo is pivoting and feinting but throwing less. Morales blocks a charge and circles out to his left. Morales slips a couple of punches and loads up on a big right. Morales slips a big more all the way to the ropes.
