I've had some fun judging some controversial fights (Leonard-Hagler, Trinidad-De La Hoya, Trinidad-Mosley, Pacman-Marquez 2) the past few nights... Tonight I'll do Morales/Barrera's first fight by popular demand.
Round 1: 10-9 Barrera...Close Round 2: 10-9 Barrera...Close Round 3: 10-9 Barrera...Close Round 4: 10-9 Morales...Clearly Round 5: 10-9 Morales...Close Round 6: 10-9 Morales...Clearly Halfway point: 57-57 Round 7: 10-9 Morales...Close Round 8: 10-9 Barrera...Close Round 9: 10-9 Morales...Close Round 10: 10-9 Morales...Close Round 11: 10-9 Barrera...Close Round 12: 10-8 Barrera...Clear Final: 114-113 Barrera
Jim Lampley said it best going into their third fight, "Many ringside observers had Barrera winning the first fight and many ringside observers had Morales winning the second fight, either way they are 1-1 and thats the way it should be."
I had Morales winning the first, Barrera the second. But was struggling to split them in each fight, and the third for that matter. Morales should probably have called it a day after beating Pacquiao - that win metamorphed him from a near peak fighter into a near shot one.
This was the best fight i've ever seen. There's no doubt Barerra won the first fight but Morales won the second fight. Either way it was 1-1 so it's OK.
How do you figure? They split the first six rounds and MAB pretty much swept the entire second half of the fight. Erik is my 2nd favorite boxer, but this revisionist history by people who have probably never even seen the fights needs to stop. The first fight was close, but I would give it to MAB. The second fight wasn't nearly as exciting because MAB boxed for the first half, but you'd have to work pretty hard to find a way to give it to Erik, and MAB clearly won the third. Period. End of discussion. If you're looking for one to give Erik, the only real argument you have is in the first fight.
UNBELIEVABLE amount of close rounds. WOW! This fight legit coulda gone either way...Best fight (entertaining/action wise) by far that I've judged in these past few days.
Never seen it? You know that yea. Regards the second fight, Morales was the agressor through the early rounds, dictating the pace, i think i gave MAB round 2 up to the end of rd 5. Rd 7 should of being a 10-8 round to Morales due to a knockdown that wasn't given. Granted the later rounds could of been edged towards MAB but it could of edged also towards Morales. He just showed more desire to win still especially in the twelth.
Barrera won all of the fights...the first fight barrera won it...it was close. Second fight Barrera didn't even look bruised at all...Morales was all brusied up. Barrera won second and third fight.
this fight was extremely close and could have gone either way, when i first saw the fight i had barrera winning i watched the fight lately and scored it to morales, i hadnt seen the fight in 4 years and my first judgement i believe was biased
The only fight of the three that was won without controversy was the third, and it was won by Barrera. The other two are too close for either guy to feel robbed.
