Common sense says shot morales loses, but Maidana is a pretty mediocre fighter who would have been made for any still competent Erik, so i wouldn't be too surprised if he makes heavy work of it.

Maidana is the best type of style for Morales to look against with his lack of defense, speed and wide looping punching. Still Morales has looked terrible from Diaz onwards and didn't look good against Limmond, slow and lacking balance and snap. Maidana should beat him down but its the perfect style for Erik so the upset could be there if he could turn the clock back, still if David Diaz kicked his ass (I had Morales edging the decision but he got his ass kicked) Maidana will beat him down

Might this be the reincarnation of the great Sirhenrycooper, perhaps? If so, you seem to be on just the right track to get banned once more.:D

This is it. Stylistically, Morales has him. Physically, he is shot. I believe Morales is one of the few fighters with that extra factor, who can rise to the occassion. Diaz and Limond were non-event fights. This fight with Maidana is a legacy making fight. It's Duran vs Barkley-esque in every single manner

I conduct myself gentlemanly and carry myself with dignity on this website. I will not stoop to your level and engage in this playground tom-foolery and use of tasteless obscenities.

I think Morales is in for a serious beating. He doesnt have the style to fight a young lion like Maidana so its probably going to end badly for him. Have to give him credit for taking th fight though and a win would certainly be a big accomplishment.

What does the win do for him, do you think? Greatness-wise?

By the time Pacquiao is all done and his career is fully acknowledged, the win Morales has over him will finally be acknowledged as one of the greatest wins of the modern era. This win would be massive also.

David Diaz fight was for the WBC lightweight title and a 4th title in a 4th division. Maidana is coming off a loss and has no title, he certainly hasn't beat a Hearns type figure and technically Morales was never a Duran he often relied on athleticism and size advantages

I don't buy half of what I'm hearing.

Maidana by brutal destruction. I watched the Limond fight. I've seen enough.

Hes just too old to go to war with a guy like Maidana and as soon as Morales get hit on the chin, thats whats going to happen.

If he wins it would certainly enhance his legacy quite a bit. Maidana is a pretty good fighter regardless of his last fight. I had him beating Khan.

  12. Maidana is not weak in the body , Khan hit him with a picture perfect left hook to the liver that punch drops any man , a straight to the body from Morales who cant even pop at 140 certainly wont fade Maidana.

Another question might be; will this fight be exciting?

you might be right. I think Morales is on the downside of his career, but Maidana is a bit overrated. Morales took note of those body punches Khan landed on Maidana. I am just saying don't be surprised if Morales stops Maidana on body punches.

I'm basically with Powerpuncher on this thread.

Stylistically I see what you're seeing Pachilles. But you're right, he's shot physically. I don't know if he can muster any of that old stuff that you speak of. If he can pull a rabbit out of the hat... but from the photos he's looked old and weak. He's coming up in weight to face a big puncher. And it was 4 years ago where he looked old and bad against David Diaz.

I much prefer the odds on Ortiz's chances against Berto. I can nearly get the same odds at a book for Ortiz instead of Morales. That's just awful...
