Morales is just too old. In that ring he may see an opening, but his body is just too old and he wont be able to pull the trigger. It's just that split second difference and it will show. I really hope Morales doesn't get flat out destroyed in this fight. If he makes it past 4 rounds I would say it's a moral victory for Morales. I would just save your money or just bet on Maidana or the O/U. I hope Morales pull it off and the next day I laugh at this post and say well hell, Morales really proved his greatness and did the impossible, but I just don't see that happening.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, MAG. Hold the frickin' phone, mate! ...That kinda stuff should be posted in the controversial opinions thread.
Morales isn't really 'that old', he's 34 the same age as Mayweather, the problem is he let himself go and lost his legs, although you don't need your legs quite as much against a Maidana, still his balance and snap isn't what it was either Yes Ortiz does have a better chance but I wouldn't put any money on it, Berto will knock him out
He's about 10 years older than Mayweather in Boxing years. You knew what McGrain meant. Erik may as well be 40.
No, it's more to do with fighting Barrera three times, Pacquiao three times, and having numerous unnecessary wars with a whole host of other lesser fighters. It has something to do with him turning professional at 17. Erik is old as ****.
Maidana with ease. Morales shouldn't be at 140, is nigh on shot to bits, and doesn't have the reflexes to use his underrated boxing ability, nor the pop to stop Maidana walking straight through him. I doubt he'll be able to war it up for long and will have little success doing so. Maidana by stoppage in about four or five rounds I expect. Shame.
This fight will show whether Maidana is any good at all rather than if Morales still has it because we've seen the comeback fights and it's obvious Morales no longer has it. Maidana should by all means put him away. If he struggles, it's not a good sign for his future career. A crowd-pleaser yes but can he take it to the next level? Not that this match-up will give any indication on that.
:blood ...Did he not show that having fought four top young names of his division? If you haven't decided whether he's "any good at all" I don't know what to tell you, A. What a strange thing to say, man.
Maidana has found his level aready IMO. A decent accumulative puncher, can be hurt, can be outmanouvered, but fairly tenacious and tough. Quite dangerous, but lacks the extra 'pizazz' to be a genuine force IMO. Way too sloppy a finisher to be considered an offensive force IMO. I like his body punching though. And he can bang with the right hand, you woulda' thought if he ahd genuine one punch power he would've stopped Khan though. Victor Ortiz has been shown up since. However, Maidana impressed me against Kotelnik. whilst he's quite plodding, it's his tenacity, even when hurt, that makes him a cut above the usual 'south American dangerman' type. Still, Ricardo Torres at his peak>>>>>Maidana. Bradley would deal with Maidana in embarrassing fashion IMO. Saying that, he's still in the top 5 @140, and Morales is nowhere near it. Addie; let's say, hypothetically, Morales can still make 130. He comes in shape and is healthy. With what he currently has, would you pick him to beat Burns and Fana? Uchiyama? Burns is not far off the bigger 'comeback' opponents El Terrible has fought IMO. I just remembered how dreadful he looked against Limond until the Scot started to wilt :rofl
What I meant to say is that if he loses this fight, or barely manages to win, then he loses the respect he has built from his previous fights, atleast from me. By all means he should beat old Morales down and I imagine he will do exactly that, but it won't prove a thing. It's a situation where Maidana won't gain much from a win but will lose a lot in the case of the unlikely loss or struggle.
Addie, this is from the Lundy/Lopez RBR thread last night: Yeah, that's a given. Odd way of putting it though, originally.
I agree pretty much. I don't want to count him out but I can't see Maidana learning any new tricks. He is what he is, a puncher and a tough test to the upcoming fighters of the division. You could go as far as to call him a "gatekeeper" and he'll probably close the door on Morales' comeback attempt.
