Mexicans in general, and Morales in particular. That thing we love about boxing. What boxing is, at its best. It's Erik Morales. Not the smart tactics, or the clever footwork, or the adjustments, but that thing that swells up in your chest and makes you proud to be a boxing fan. That thing when Duran fights his way off the ropes against Barkley. Or when Leonard toughs it out against Lalonde. That's not about money, or fighting for anyone but yourself. Morales is that all the time. Viva Erik! And feel free to post your own favorite proud boxing moments.
Morales was a pleasure to watch. His unique style buzzed casuals and intrigued purists. Fierce exchanges were linked by eye-catching trickery. Who was the boxer who caught that shot which changed its trajectory mid-execution? Brilliant. And it makes for a very interesting reference. As Morales' career ventured outside of 122 lbs. the most blatant thing which diminished from his repertoire was power. He almost instantly went from a puncher to a guy who chipped away. However, in that eighth round with Maidana, El Terrible cracks him with a hook, shaking him more than Amir or Floyd ever did. Admittedly, the timing was superb.
Absolutely loved Erik. What an incredible warrior. Still think his victory over Paq was brilliant and the prototype Floyd will, use if he ever fights Manny.
Outboxed Paq in 2005, and had a great career, his next stop no doubt will be the HOF, those fights he had with Barrera were brutal:smoke
