Erik Pfeifer is a 6'3 28 year old Heavyweight Amateur. Born in and fighting out of Lohne (Oldenburg), Lower Saxony, Deutschland. I've been meaning to do a thread on Pfeifer for awhile now, he was the winner of the very first AIBA Super Heavyweight Title beating Mohammed Arjaoui earlier this year, however he's proved to be somewhat of a letdown on a few occasions, the most recent was him getting stopped in September by Nistor in the 9th round and promptly losing that said title, but that's not the worst thing in the world since Nistor was also the only guy that's been able to stop Joshua as an amateur. Pfeifer also holds a win over Nistor from 2014, so maybe he'll win the rubber if they have one. He's come up short against Ivan Dychko twice one of the time by SD, and has a loss and 2 wins against Zhang Zhilei, was stopped by Joshua on a cut, and holds an amateur win over Wawrzyk when he was decent. Even though he might not always come out on top in a lot of his matches, he usually gives it his all and is a very skilled HW who has a style that's very pro friendly. But most likely he'll hold true to form and get to the title match only to lose and be the perennial Silver or Bronze. I think Pfeifer is still worth a look and could be a contender against many of the current Top 20 guys at HW and make the division a little more interesting if he ever turns pro. I wouldn't put him in top5 or anything but he has a pro-ish style for sure. He'll be a good addition.
Isnt Pfeifer from Russia as most of the top German amateurs??? I think I read somewhere that he and his parents are from Sibiria, but I may be wrong . Well, most top German amateurs and pros have germanised names like Marco Huck=Muahmir Hukic or Adnan Catic=Felix Sturm or........... . German heavy weight pro Gerber carried off the prize though:I watched him speak fluent russian. He even stated that he felt more russian than German. Damn! Gerber sounds truly german, and so does Pfeiffer. Really amazing! Whenever I see young lads fight at the amateurs in Germany having names like Anton or Waldemar I know at once that they are not ethnic germans but ethnic russians.
I've read quite a few times he was born in Asbest, Russia and I've read he was born in Lohne so I have no idea which is accurate, but I've only seen his name spelled as Erik Pfeifer so I'm just assuming he is a legit German, because that's very much a German name.:conf
Why??? Sure,he is an extremely wayward fighter, but he for sure can beat some of better known names of the big boys' league. On a good day he is able to beat almost all present top heavies except for the very best.
In that fight he quit, definitely makes me think he doesn't have the heart and durability for the real pro game. He could build up a record like any other decent heavyweight but he'd probably lose at higher levels
