    From main page:

"Lara steps up with the level of his opposition," DeCubas said to Ring. "He had 400 amateur bouts, he's been getting great work in the gym as a pro and he thinks he's ready, so we're going to go for it." According to Lara's co-manager, two possibilities for Lara are IBF light-middleweight champion Cory Spinks and also a fight with Kermit Cintron (even though the Puerto Rican is belt-less at present). If Lara were to actually get the fight with "The Next Generation" and beat him, the 26-year-old will have made fellow defector Gamboa's climb to the interim WBA featherweight title look slow in comparison. The exciting southpaw's team must have great faith in Lara if they are serious about putting him in with such a seasoned fighter as the gifted Spinks.

If those rumors are true, Lara only had to come through veteran Jose Varela unharmed on the Mayweather-Marquez undercard, and he destroyed his Nicaraguan opponent in the 1st round to make a point. So with at least plans of a world title opportunity maybe as soon as the end of 2009, the question needs to be asked: given his style, performances and just 8 pro fights, is he ready to take on a genuine LMW world champion like Cory Spinks?

I think its too early for him to fight Cintron... but he'll beat Spinks right now. Spinks is past his prime, and has no power to bother Lara with. Cory just went life n death with Lattimore... who's average at best.

I'd like to see last nights's fight... was it televised? It's not on YT, so I guess it wasn't... and of course I'd love to see the Spinks fight. But Lara has to be ranked in the top 15 first of all.

Lara is ranked #51 on Box Rec. That does not mean he needs to be that low, but the simple fact is that as a pro he has fought no one of importance. I'd like to see him fight at least a few fights against better competition before he gets a title shot. Here are a few examples.

Grady Brewer; slick, cagey, strong, smart, and there is something about a prospect with a zero that brings out the best in Brewer. He's taken 4 zeros from young hopefuls. They weren't on Lara's level, but Grady is now fighting better than ever.

Ossie Duran; durbale guy, never been stopped, lost a close one to David Lopez.

David Lopez; what the hell, if he got past Duran, Lopez would be a good option. An experienced guy who is tall, rangy, and can box a bit.

If Lara can beat a few guys like the above, then he deserves a shot. Until then . . . .?

Lara needs to get more tv exposure.

As he said he's the most marketable of the cubans.
