Erislandy Lara vs. Grady Brewer tonight! This content is protected Great news! LMW prospect Erislandy Lara (9-0) will face The Contender Season 2 winner Grady Brewer (8-0 in the last 5 years) on January 29, on the "Fight Night With De La Hoya and Hopkins: Campillo vs Shumenov II" card in Las Vegas, which will be broadcasted by Fox Sports Net. This is a big opportunity for me and Im happy to be fighting a quality opponent like Grady Brewer, said Lara. I know hes going to come ready to fight, but so am I, and I want to make a statement by giving the fans my best performance yet. Theres no denying Laras talent, but hes not ready for me or this fight, said Brewer. Ive paid my dues the hard way and now its time for me to make my move. This aint the amateurs and Im going to let Lara know that on January 29. That's a great and dangerous step-up. Last time Brewer was about to face former P4P#2 Winky Wright at MW but the fight fell apart. Brewer is more of a natural 154-er where he'll have the Lara fight, scheduled for 10 rounds. Bold but excellent choice for the young Cuban!
Lara ain't playin no games! What a way to start off the year for Lara. Man I wish i had FSN right about now. This will be a fight, great matchmaking by Lara's handlers.
Very tough fight if Brewer is ready to fight. I could see Grady posing some problems for Lara. If Lara aces this test, it's probably onto an eliminator.
nope, gotta fight some contenders first at least and then he can make that jump. But he's doing something a lot of contenders a chicken to do in fighting Mr. Brewer
damn bro i leaked this info way before anyone on the media knew it but noone noticed, im glad to see lara back on tv and a step up too now we'll see what he made out of
Quote from Brewer: Theres no denying Laras talent, but hes not ready for me or this fight, said Brewer. Ive paid my dues the hard way and now its time for me to make my move. This aint the amateurs and Im going to let Lara know that on January 29. All these american boxers know how to say is " this ain't the amateurs " as they know that they always get an ass whooping in hands of the Cubans, they have to say that to " sound good and convince themselves that now they have improved ", but now he will know what fighting a Cuban star is all about...Amateur or Pro, brewer is getting it. :bbb This is no step up for Lara, Brewer is a C fighter who has been KO'ed around 6 times, beaten by UD around 4 times etc, he has like 11 loses plus at age 39??? What does he think? Does he think he is fighting just another american prospect? HE IS NOT, he is fighting a Cuban World Amateur Champion, something that brewer can only dream of being... Lara will stop this dude in mid rounds with ease, no step up for Lara just another good learning experience!!! brother please, the Cubans have arrived...
The last prospect Grady Brewer faced was 18-0 Albert Onolunose. Poor Albert no longer has that zero he was so proud of. He got sparked in 2 rounds. The prospect before that was 15-0 Anthony Thompson. Thompson lost his zero when Grady stopped him in the 3rd round. At the end of the day Thompson retired from boxing rather than face Brewer a second time. One fight before Thompson, Brewer derailed 16-0 Miguel Martin. Anybody besides me see a pattern here? Brewer has nicked a total of 5 or 6 zeros. I have been telling you guys for a long time that you do not put your undefeated prospect in with Grady freaking Brewer unless you are 100% certain he is the real deal, and I am not convinced that Lara has truly made the transition from fighting like an amatuer to fighting like a pro. Grady Brewer is not the same kind of journeyman as Perez, Varela, and Boone. He's cut from a different brand of cloth. If the news that Lara was about to fight Steve Forbes or Cornelius Bundrage broke, most of us would agree that's to much to soon. Fact is, Grady beat both those guys. Grady can box, he can fight, he can spoil and fiddle and frustrate, and if an opponent is not careful, Brewer will knock him the **** out. This is a very gutsy move by Team Lara, but it may very well prove to be a stupid one. If Lara beats Brewer, I will come on here and tell you he is the real deal.
