Did Grady put up a good effort? I was going to watch that fight but got caught up in the FNF main event.
So now Brewer is a journeyman? :bart I recalled that you were saying that Brewer had beaten this guy and the other guy and that he had'nt lost in 5 years. SO NOW HE IS A JOURNEYMAN... Admit it, Lara gave him a Cuban boxing lesson, but I give Brewer credit for standing in there, being tough and he does have great defence! If it was'nt for his defence he would had gotten KO'ed in the early rounds... You said that if Lara defeated Brewer you would say what about Lara??? And Lara does need to improve a lot of his defensive skills, I don't like him when he stands in there in front of the guys with his tight defence up, yeah he blocks 95% of punches but the uppercut gets to him. He needs to learn to fight on the inside or just fight from the outside... Good tough win for him. Gamboa and Rigondeaux are much better than him but he is also very good. I wish to see more improvement as he keeps fighting!
What happened to the quick blow out you guys predicted? Me, JR, Mexican Jew, and a few others tried to tell you guys you were over rating Lara and under rating Brewer. That was a good win, and it proved Lara is ready for serious competiton. He is still a long way from the finished product, and that showed up big time.
That is SCARY for anybody from 154 to 168 to read. This kid is going to be very frightening in about a few years. Watching the Brewer fight now, he's so composed and measured. I could see him getting over confident and dropping a loss on his way up to the top but he's abnormally composed. The first thought I had when I watched him was how he reminded me of MAB in terms of composure and calmness.
I was bored by the fight, Lara needs to do more if he ever wants to win a title, he seemed content just throwing an occasional punch. I get the sense that a solid pressure fighter will give him fits.
At the end of the 4th round, in my opinion, Brewer needed another 20-30 seconds to finish him. I think the kid may have a chin problem. However, his composure was impressive, and that was one of the questions I had about him.
Honestly, I wasn't that impressed. Brewer damn near stopped him at the end of the 4th. In addition, I didn't like the way the uppercut got through over and over, nor was I impressed by the fact that Brewer came inside on him over and over. And the stoppage was premature. All in all a good win for Lara, but just to give you an idea of where Lara's career is, Rubio and Zertuche both did WAY better against Brewer. That's not a knock on Lara. It just means he's far from the finished product. Bundrage, Duran, and maybe Julio would be good opponents. Martirosyan, Lopez, and others would knock hm out.
Let's hear it! Don't be an absolute tool, you did what many believed me included: predicted a tough tough fight for Lara at this stage of his career. Now that he overcame the upset kid who, as you said beat many young contenders, give Erislandy the respect you promised! Grady is a tough SOB, and you should take his loss like the still likeable veteran does, like a man!
