i like him, good footwork and quick hands,i'll follow him. also a southpaw.Needs some more fights and will be elite for sure.
Negative. Amateur experience is extremely important. Example: Do you see some boxers starting to get their punches wider after a few rounds??? Well, the muscle memory adquired during a long amateur career and many years of practice is that avoids that. How to look for mistakes? How to get your hands in?? That is something that you get with experiece. It doesn't matter if they are wearing face protection. Ask any decent trainer!!! They will tall you how important that experience is. And to the other person who say Pavlik has dominated the division. Yes, that is correct. But that it is not my point. My point is the level of experience Pavlik had at that point. And I was also anwering to some stupid comments here. Apparently, everytime a Cuban beats some bum he because the greatest new boxing star.
I for one have never said that if Lara defeated Brewer that he would be a star. I knew that Lara was going to defeat Brewer and that it was going to be a good learning experience for him though. You are right about one thing, amateur experience is extremely important, and this is why all the Cuban defectors are more ready and have more miles than what their record really shows... :good
Guys, watch the fight all over again when you can. Lara did impressed me more now that I saw the fight again as I was calmed enough to make good observations and fair judgements. Lara is very patient, strong, accurate and also has a very good chin! In the 4th, Brewer hit Lara very hard in his chin and Lara's legs did'nt wabble. Then in the final seconds of the 4th Brewer again connected to Lara's face with another hard right, staggered Lara very midly but his legs were also there. Lara also has a very good chin and can absorb a hard punch, this is also something very good as every boxer will get hit, no matter how good they are! I take what I said back, Lara is actually better than Yudel Jhonson but Jhonson is another great Cuban prospect to watch!!!
He is 4-0 so far and has fought all winning guys. He fights very soon on February 5th along with Rigondeaux, Dorticos and others !!!
It was the right fight and right experience at this stage for Lara, a very valuable 10 rounder in the bag, that's why they chose Brewer over some bum. Lara was tested, he passed the test, but looks like there's a lot of room for improvement, personally I'd feed him with a few more tough contenders like Ishe Smith or better, and only then take on the world. Lara being the youngest of the Cuban stars has a bit more time and room for improvement than the gold medallists.
LAra's wife told me that he wasnt prepared for that fight, apparently he didnt train as much as he would've liked to cuz his trainer was training gamboa the whole time until the week before the fight, not making excuses just telling you what she told me
dorticos is not very good man , he is actually one of the worst cubans fighting right now , despainge and yudel jhonson are pretty decent though
Now Noob. I have a very important question for you. How important or good is this really for cubans? Do you really see what is going here? Boxing is a sport that has been tipically dominated by the disadvantaged. Why? Because the normal human being that has other choices nomally don't choose to fight. There are always exceptions, like the Klitschkos. But Mexicans, cubans, and Pinoys might as well be the three countries to dominate the sports in the next years. WHY?? Because boxing represent the biggest oportunity for many youngsters in those countries. Take my case for example. I started boxing when I was 14y/o in Puerto Rico. I had the oportunity to be trained by Macho Camachos stepfather. But I had other choices, and I choose college. Boxing is a sport of a lot of sacrifices. For 1 good boxer that comes out of Cuba right now, HOW MANY YOUNGSTERS END UP AS "WANNABE" BOXERS WITHOUT A CAREER AND WITHOUT EDUCATION???? I hope you understand what I am trying to say here. If the cubans had more choices, may be they will not produce that many good boxers. But they would have more educated youngsters and less uneducated ex amateur boxers running around. And that would be a lot better for Cuba as a country. Boxing should be a choice, not an opportunity to escape.
That's possibly very true, but Lara still looked very strong and on top of his game. Man, if he trained better then Brewer would not had lasted 10 rounds that's for sure... :think
