Winning, in itself, isn't enough. He needs some hardware to force Canelo's hand. That means that he MUST fight the Smith/Molina winner and win decisively.

If he had applied more pressure on Williams, he probably would have gotten the knockout instead of the rather questionable decision in favor of Williams.
