Erislandy Savón Cotilla is a 6'4 25 Year Old Heavyweight with a 9-0 WSB record. Born and still fighting out of Guantanamo, Cuba. Even though AIBA and WSB are technically amateur they're really not, so he's damn close to being a pro. Unfortunately because of Cuba's position on their boxers turning pro, Savón like many before has yet to make it official which is our loss because Erislandy is one of the better prospects on the island and unlike many of his peers has a far more exciting semi aggressive but responsible style. He fought at the 2012 Olympics and was controversially eliminated in the first round against Anthony Joshua even though the match was close to a draw, and it could be scored for Savón. And he got stopped by Mezhidov which isn't that bad since Mezhidov also beat AJ and rocked him a few times when they fought, also it was a standing 8 count and not really a KO. Even though our new closer relations with Cuba could open a few doors to their fighters going pro, I still have my doubts that they will change their policy. And I'm not sure about Erislandy defecting either due to the fact that his family all still live there. So let's hope in some way, shape or form he can turn pro and make Heavyweight an even more exciting division, especially since it seems to be heading in a better direction recently. Also he's the nephew of Felix Savón. Check Out This Giant Cuban in Action. :toney:toney:toney:toney

No he's still a Heavyweight, if he turns pro it'll most likely be at Cruiserweight though.

I'm a little rusty and I shouldn't have tried to do it from memory. :-( I'm having a bad week in my personal life.:|:nut

I thought he beat Joshua as well. And the Medzhidov thing was a flub up I've posted that video and seen it countless times, I had Olympics on my mind from the Joshua Savon thing I just wrote, oh well I'll fix it.

Neither do I as I said in the original post, I would have gotten around to doing a thread on him earlier but that was the main reason I held back.

He's in action at the WSB this season and knoced a guy out in 2 minutes in his first contest. He will probably go to Rio 2016 and have a great chance at winning a medal. Hopefully he will turn pro after that.

I'm impressed with what I've seen so far and I think he's one of the best amateurs at the moment.
