What say you ? I don't have the complete footage, but it seems to me that it was closer than the judges thought. I know Marcel almost knocked out Arguello in one of those rounds but I thought Arguello outlanded the panamanian, I don't know I didn't score round by round so what say you people ?
I've always thought it was a close, hard to score fight myself, but most of the posters i respect on here that have discussed the fight have Marcel winning a bit more clearly....ie by 4 points or so. Overall i'd say it was a legit win for Marcel.
I speak absolutely no Spanish, so could someone here who does tell me who has seen the Leonel Hernandez/Alexis Arguello fight, what did the referee do when he stopped the fighters in the 5th round? The crowd absolutely exploded louder than they had been the whole fight up too that point. I ask because I'm wondering if he took a point from Arguello who was defending his newly won Featherweight title for the first time in Hernandez's home turf of Caracas Venezuela. You were in good form that day. As to the fight, I believe it's on youtube in its entirety, or at least used to be. I watched it via that and scored it 10-5 for Marcel. No two ways about it, Arguello got some book learnin' handed to him that day, great effort by Marcel. The general take on it for me was Marcel starting out real well, Arguello coming on strong in the middle rounds, even hurting Marcel at one point, and then Marcel taking the late rounds in championsip style. No controversy here.
