Is he a hall of famer? I say yes and i'm quite surprised to be honest that he never gets mentioned as a big win for duran. Wins over alexis arguello, samuel serrano, antonio gomez x2, alfredo marcano x2, caraballo and smecca. I say he's easily a hall of famer. Not to mention the hometown draw he recieved against shibata.

Ernesto Marcel stated before defending his FW Title against Arguello that it would be his final bout, win or lose, and after recording a clear cut UD remained true to his word. Like Loi, Marcel close out his career on top, finishing up with his greatest performances. Yes, he absolutely deserves to be a hall of famer, and I expect the IBHOF to admit him in the coming years, probably sooner than later.

Marcel is definately HOF worthy, his resume speaks for itself.

Ernesto had a beautiful style and had great balance and terrific offensive and defensive skills, as well as that fluid slip and countering style that I enjoy watching a great deal. Flyweight Fidel Bassa is the only fighter that I`ve seen who managed to master that style, unfortunately his career was cut short due to a detached retina and he had a terrible chin. One thing about the Duran fight I never understood is why it was stopped, Marcel wasn`t in any distress and was in a clinch with Duran when all of a sudden the ref steps in and awards the fight to Roberto... I`ve always wondered what happened there to prompt the ref to call a halt to the fight.
