Surprised no one has mentioned the passing of Indian Red. I am a little young to remember him, although ive heard alot about him. Hes a local guy from the area i live in .Ernie and little brother "Little Red" fought out of Alhambra,ca near Los Angeles and they were real big. Actually ido remember Danny hes one of the first fighters i became a fan of along with an aging Ali and Duran,Chacon. Erne beat some good fighters former champs Oscar"Shotgun"Alvarado,Hedgemon Lewis,Jose Stable and gave Emile Griffith some tuff fights and memorable wars with Jose Napoloes. I do know that he battled substance abuse problems but was a popular crowd favorite who came before the more well known Danny"Little Red"Lopez. Would like to hear comments on any memories of Indian Red who retired at 47-13-1-23 kos.
Didn't know he had passed away. Sad news, a real tough guy who fought the best fighters of his day. RIP
Really surprised if it's true because I have heard nothing yet about his passing. I believe he was recently "re-discovered" after having went missing for years. It's a tragic story but atleast he was able to unite with his family again before passing away, if it's true. This content is protected Ernie and his brother Danny Lopez
The dude was a rugged fighter, but his friends said he was a real flake...... He bounced around a lot in society.... I saw a pic from '07 and Ernie Lopez looked damn near 100 yrs old... Christ, he must've been on the bottle a lot later in life..... He was weathered big time...... Some serious hard livin' there....... Geez.......... I imagine Ernie Lopez was only in his 60s, but he was actually physically a lot older........ MR.BILL
Good, rugged fighter of the late 60's and early 70's...his best victgories were a pair of tko's over Hedgemon Lewis...he made two valiant stands vs Napoles...God Bless, ...R.I.P.
Red was a B+ to A- grade fighter in an era of great welterweights. Late 60's to mid 70's. Gave it his all. I think Napoles hit him with an uppercut that broke his eye socket. The LA crowd & TV loved him. May he RIP.
He was a tough fighter...Beat undefeated Hedgeman Lewis, than stopped him....Close 1st fight with Griffith...Unfortunately Napoles was Champion, Indian Red gave a gallant effort...sorry to hear he was down on his luck....
