When Ali went the full 15 with Terrell in 67 ,Nat Fleischer was so critical of his inability to get a stoppage claimed Dempsey, Louis or Marciano would have disposed of him . Would those mentioned have got him out .And did Ali carry him or was he just unable to stop the big guy ?
Dempsey and Louis probably would have, not so sure about Rocky, he was very wild with his shots and Ernie had a good chin he might have been able to clutch and spoil with Rocky.Ali didn't carry Terrell, imo.
I don't believe he did either McVey. I think it was a myth that built up along with the "what's my name " scenario. Ali realized Terrell's chin was good enough to stand his best shots ,so he settled down in to the taunting .And I've got Dempsey stopping him late as Louis would .Maybe a Corner stoppage due to a severe battering. He probably would make Rock struggle to ,good Chin and awkward to boot .
This. Terrell before his health problems was a real nightmare for small inside fighters, since he could fight so well on the inside, which is rare for big guys now days. I remember Shkor giving Marciano a hard time, since he was mauling Marciano on the inside and Terrell was a much better fighter than Shkor. Terrell would most likely go the distance with Marciano.
I think Terrell at the height of his career would have gone the distance with almost any heavyweight champ except the mega-heavyweights of the present era, but then they should be classified as fighting in a different division altogether in my opinion. By almost, I mean Tyson. I'm not sure he'd last against Tyson. Holmes might get him in a later round, too. Of the three, Louis would have had the best chance of scoring a kayo, but Joe had problems in his first fights with Buddy Baer and Abe Simon. Terrell at his best was a cut above both of those big guys at their bests, in my opinion.
All three win. Ernie was good but he really wasn’t that good. Not enough power to scare those men off. How they win who knows Ernie was stopped twice it wouldn’t surprise me that some of the best punchers in history stop him as well.
