12 rounds. Who takes it? Both are going down-hill, but honestly I think Terrell has more left in the tank and pounds out a 12-round unanimous decision. Boxing Mildenberger wouldn't be the best idea, and as my good friend Richard M Murrieta pointed out, Terrell was not afraid to go toe-to-toe with light hitters. This might actually be a good fight from that point of view.
Karl Mildenberger would have fought Ernie Terrell in Frankfurt, Germany, to gain an advantage from the crowd and the scoring every time a punch was landed. Ernie would have smothered Karl's inside punching, he would aslo slip the right jab of Mildenberger's. Terrell takes a close decision.
Nice break down and prob the most likely outcome. Personally just started watching more Terrell fights. Everyone’s seen the “what’s my name” fight but when I researched him for the five best wins thread he’s got himself some resume of scalps.
1967 wasn't a good year for Terrell. He didn't win any fights. And, at the end of the year, he retired. (Coming back three years later.) Mildenberger had a couple good wins that year. I'd lean toward him. But, in hindsight, it's a pretty brutal matchup for the two guys who were rated the top two when the actual WBA Heavyweight tournament began that year. That Terrell-Manuel Ramos fight from 1967 was on Youtube for a while. Not good.
It’s difficult to make a call on how someone will fare against a lefty without seeing them in action against a southpaw and knowing how much trouble it gives them. I know Ernie beat Gerhard Zech, a 6-5 German southpaw — per Boxrec Terrell knocked him down twice in the first round but lost three or four of 10 rounds on all cards. That suggests to me he had some trouble with the left-handed stance. Seems the bout was on YouTube at one point (in whole or in part) but I’m unable to find it. Mildenberger beat Zech twice, over 15 rounds each time, fwiw. Not much to go on but I think Karl would be pretty competitive against Terrell. Mildenberger had a habit of going down, sometimes often, in fights but I don’t know that Ernie is the type to turn up the heat too much even if he gets the advantage. I’ll go with Terrell winning a very sleep-inducing decision but not running away with it.
The fight was on youtube. I own it and should upload it, but have had trouble attempting to upload stuff since I'm not the best with computers
Lol like a bigger better John Ruiz although I enjoyed watching Terrell v Machen he looked good against a slightly past it Machen
