Liston laid off a year after Ali-Liston 2 (May,1965), but came back
and fought "opponent" Gerhard Zech in July 1966, & Amos Johnson
in August 1966., both wins by KO.

Terrell wins the WBA Title (3/65) against Machen, and defends against Chuvalo (11/65), and Doug Jones (6/66).

Terrell takes on Liston in Nov 1966.

(The winner has Ali in the immediate future.)

Who wins...Terrell "The Octopus" or Liston "The Bear"?

I'll go with Liston by decision,I don't think he could pull the trigger so fast any more, but his jab matches Ernie's and he would be stronger inside, plus he had a right hand to be reckoned with and Terrell was essentially one -handed.

Terrell knocked out Bob Foster with a right hand, and a poster called Mcvey said that stopping a light heavy with a right was all Tua needed to be considered two handed.

David Tua was born 11/21/72....the Foster vs Terrell fight was 7-10-64, eight years before Tua came on the scene hopefully supporting "2 hands".

Tua knocked out Michael Moorer with a right hand. Moorer scaled 224lbs for that fight which was in 2002 I don't think Moorer had scaled 175lbs since 1990 which is 12 years earlier? Tua also ko'd several other heavyweights with right hands.

My earlier post said Terrell was "essentially one handed". Essentially in this context being a qualifying word but kiddywinks wouldn't know that.

Bubble and Squeek ,when he isn't making multiple threads consisting of unadulterated sewage, posts trolling garbage.

" Little things please little minds."

I only see his cr*p when it features on a response from another's posts, and that's just the way I like it!

Hopefully it won't be too long before he is banned again?

Kind of a silly, tho interesting, thread.
Sonny's 'comeback' was in Sweden and he wasn't fighting world beaters by any stretch. He wasn't even considered for the Elimination Tournament. Ernie was simply jab (a good one), pretty stiff right (when he threw it) and hold, hold, hold. And decent whiskers so, at the time you mentioned, IMO, a decision either way which most pundits wouldn't have even put much stock into.

The 1967 WBA 8 man Elimination Tourney came later when Ali refused induction into the military, and was maybe heading to the Big House.

Terrell held this this earlier version of the WBA Title by beating Eddie Machen on 3/5/65 because Ali had signed to fight Liston in May 1965, and the WBA stripped Ali for it due to "no re-match" clauses...and the general stink around Clay vs Liston I. And of course we get more stink in Ali-Liston 2.

I wouldn’t be too quick to write off Terrell here.

I think that Liston lost a lot of form and a lot of focus during this period.

Liston Patterson I was the last fight that he trained for diligently.

We know the tourney came later but Sonny had no resume to be considered for it after the 2 Ali's and his, at least early on, slow comeback.
The WBA hated Ali, and set the whole Terrell double champ **** up.
Why fight Machen, who had his ass handed to him 9 months earlier by Patterson? Then tiny Doug and Chuvalo who he could jab and hug and hold til' the cows came home?

Liston a "Money fight" for Terrell.....and maybe Liston could have whipped all the other contenders around in '66 besides Ali. Don't remember many fighters queuing up to fight Liston back then.

No sane man fought Sonny unless he had to.
