It seems many of you don't know that Errol Spence is a longtime close friend of both Charlo twins and also a team mate of 154lb fighter Jermell Charlo as both train together with head trainer Derek James. Jermell fight's at 160lbs and is trained by Ronnie Sheilds. He is also friends with Spence Jr. The likelihood of Spence Jr. fighting either Charlo twin is close to impossible. However, if Castano was to win a rematch and a trilogy fight with Charlo was not on the table a fight for the undisputed championship against Spence Jr. would be the biggest and best fight to be made at 154lbs. Spence Jr. has recently started that he intends to move up soon, maybe even after his Pacquiao fight. Castano has 2 amateur victories over Spence Jr. I wouldn't take too much from that as Castano was born into a boxing family and started boxing in diapers whereas Spence Jr. started boxing at the age of 16. Both rehydrate a lot after weight in. Castano on fight night would weight much more however seeing as he is already a 154 fighter who is rather well built. Spence Jr. would probably have an easier time making weight (easier than making 147 anyway) but not rehydrate as much. Personally, I don't think Spence Jr. has the power to change things at the higher division. If Castano can manage fairly well against Charlo power then he will be okay with Spence Jr. too. I do see this as being a dog fight, similar to Errol's fight against Shawn Porter. If Castano wins, it's a very good legacy boosting win. If Spence Jr. wins, it's even better as he is the fighter going up in weight. It would add a lot more to his resume and legacy and could possibly go down as the best of his generation (post Mayweather and Pacquiao). A few more good wins on this level could seel his name in boxing history. Prediction: Castano clear UD
Lot of ifs here, let's just hope they make the rematch while they've both got all the belts then we can look forward to what comes next... I would have liked Charlo to come out like Castano and demand an immediate rematch in the post fight presser but his comments were telling
I would imagine he rehydrates a lot from 147 At 154 obviously not as much @IntentionalButt can you delve into your vast emporium of knowledge
A great fight and I like your take. I think Castaño squared up stance won't serve him well, Spence gets hit most cleanly with the orthodox straight right hand which isn't Castaño's punch. Spence is more active too, which will help win rounds in a fight where I think only Castaño has a chance of scoring a KO.
