Timothy Bradley had a long career and a few wins over some near all time greats, and one over one, although the Pacquiao win was more like a no-win. The thing about Spence is that he just lost his biggest fight to date. I want to say he is a Hall of Famer but sadly that car crash has left him at a point where I think he will need to win a few big ones down the road to ensure he gets in. I mean, at one point, Roger Mayweather looked like he really was going to be sensational. If he had won the Chavez rematch, Im sure he'd probably be in, but he did not. His conqueror, Rocky Lockridge, is another case like that, He was short changed a couple of times (Gomez for example and the first Pedroza fight) and he had a couple of very close calls that did not go his way (Pedroza II, Chavez) and that unfortunately, has him separated from the IBHOF. Should Lockridge be in? (in fact, Im thinking about starting a thread about that) If Spence wins a few big bouts down the road, a thing that I think because of the injuries he suffered will sadly be a hard thing to do, then sure I'd vote for a yes!
My gut instinct is no, but lemme just scan former WWs who got in and see how he compares Ah man guys like Cotto and Cuevas are in there and Spence is more accomplished than those. He put himself on the map in 2016 beating Algieri and Bundu both by stoppage to get his title shot against the number 1 WW in the world. A position he held from 2017 till 2023 unifying 3 of the belts on the way. His resume from top to bottom: Brook Porter Peterson Ugas Danny Garcia Mikey Garcia Algieri Bundu Vargas Van Heerden Ocampo (who btw is now insanely active) That resume is solid. Solid AF. He's a great WW, of that I've no doubt. One of the top 20 definitely. And he's greater than some of the WW fighters in there already. So do I think his career is HOF worthy, no. But do I think it's more worthy than some of those who've been inducted, yes.
He was undefeated for 10 years .A decade and change.Really only really loss to the real one.Another great champion in Bud Crawford.Emphasis on GREAT. There was no blue print until BUD.But I think his career not over.He could bounce back from this loss and one big name and he in.
Is he fk.. many of his performances have been lackluster.. he hasn't beaten anyone of real note & he's sat out his career at WW despite probably walking around at 175 pounds.. the moment he did finally step up he got absolutely embarrassed. Whats his career? Shawn Porter & Ugas?
Most of those were well past their best.. his resume is ****.. & when you have to mention names like Algeri and Bundu its kind of self-defeating for your argument.. & Mikey & Danny? Are u for real?
My argument was that he didn't deserve the IBHOF. So if you think I've defeated my argument that means you think he does deserve the IBHOF. But as usual you Spence fanbois can't actually justify what they say. Pathetic.
Bradley has 2 wins over 2 ATG's in Marquez, Pacquiao, remind me again how many does Spence have ? Ok the Pacquiao fight was a bad decision but the Marquez win was legit.
My modern standard for HOF is Gatti. If we go by the "Gatti/standard" then yeah he absolutely deserves to be in IMO. Hell, if we go by the Boom Boom Mancini/standard or the Bradley/standard, Spence should get in.
Gatti got in for the excitement he brung to the sport, hes probably top 10 most exciting fighter of all time. You won't find a braver fighter than Gatti, and whilst he doesn't have the resume to be a HOF fighter. For the impact and excitement he brought to the sport hes definitely worthy.
2nd longest title reign at 147 in the modern era, 2nd guy in welter history to unify 3 titles and take the title off 3 different champions.. I would say yes Errol Spence is an all time welter and a HOFer
It's weird rating his victories over either García. Had the same results come against Mikey at super feather about 5-7 years earlier, or Danny at light welter 6-9 years earlier, those are both EXCELLENT wins. The circumstances being as they were, meh.
It's still to early for Errol to say for sure, he can come back after this & let's see what he does, Even in the Crawford fight he didn't even think about giving up at all & there was plenty of times he had more than good reason to do so unlike someone like Ryan Garcia who took the first chance he got & bailed, Spence will want to prove himself after this especially with all his anger built up from his defeat.
