When I first heard about this fight I scoffed at it. I still can't see Spence winning but I'm slowly getting into it. 1. Early in his career, Spence was no murderous puncher but he had adequate power. It's gone now, and maybe it's better competition but I think draining plays a role. Canelo got his power surge at 168, maybe Spence gets his at 160 (against a weakened Canelo). 2. After the car accident, Spence is looking for the exit. This is as exciting a finale as any besides Crawford or Jermell. 3. Spence has tremendous abilities, fluid movement, and a winner's mentality. 4. Crawford is another option. He has a big reach advantage over Canelo and has maintained good power across three weight divisions. He has a lot of what Lara had but paired with aggression. It's a better matchup than it seemed at first blush. The real matchups are Plant, Charlo, Benavidez, Bivol, GGG, etc. Very unlikely we'll see those back to back to back, so I wouldn't mind seeing a jump up fight thrown in instead of a SMW taxi driver.
