There’s a reason Keith is avoiding Spence and down playing his position at 147. He doesn’t want that work. Thurman will eventually fight Spence but not because he wants to. It will be because he doesn’t want to be seen as someone who ducked his biggest challenge and to curb the criticism he will continue to receive from the fans for not facing Spence
I’d favor Spence, who has the more systematic and proven attack. But Spence is open to counter hooks, exactly what Keith throws. So Spence would have to tighten up his D if he’s going to fight Thurman.
The outcome of a Brook-Spence meeting was always pretty irrelevant in my thinking on Spence-Thurman. Different matchup is different matchup. The only thing that could've made it relevant for me is if Brook (who hits plenty hard enough to find guys out) had uncovered any real fault in Errol's chin, but Spence took Kell's connects well and the fight was as competitive as I'd imagined it would be. I always felt that Brook vs. Spence was a meeting between the real #1 and #2 at the weight, anyway. Some guys declare that their managers won't let them fly, while others tell their manager to get them a passport ASAP because it's strap season. With that clarification out of the way, this one's a very easy pick for me. Spence eviscerates him.
By the time we got around to Brook v Spence it was more like #5 against #2 imo. Due to the damage and weight drain Brook had to go through. Such a shame for boxing fans we didn't get that fight instead of Brook v GGG. Would have been an epic imo. Could have been an epic.
I agree that it would've been better for Brook-Spence to have happened without the preface of a Golovkin-Brook sideshow muddying the waters. I think Brook-Spence was always a promotable enough fight for UK Box Office (British champ vs. highly touted Yank tends to go over well), but it's understandable that Golovkin was attractive to Kell, who was desperate for an opportunity to prove his mettle against a 'name' guy by then (and to bank the pay that comes with it, of course). Sad situation for Brook.
I personally think it was Brook who was more desperate for GGG. Brook was ducked by all the top US guys.....just like Spence is being ducked now. So he needed to force himself in to a position where it was either A - Impossible for him to be ducked. B - Win, and be guaranteed fights like Canelo over night. The difference between Spence and Brook is ultimately timing, and the fact that Spence is from the US.
You obviously have no ****in clue what footwork is. Spence has better footwork than Thurman. Footwork ain't about dancing you idiot. It's about correct foot positioning, and balance, and Spence's positioning is always perfect because of how good his footwork is. I swear to God, this forum knows nothing about boxing.
You’re way more unapologetic than I am, I tolerate the inaccuracies because well most on here are fans and can’t truly make the distinction unless they’ve actually been trained. Spence is a master at getting great leverage on his punches because of his excellent positioning which is a strong indication of well schooled footwork.
