Errol Spence Jr. vs. Lamont Peterson final press conference live stream

When did you ever live-stream a video on social media with close to a thousand viewers?

 

Spence is mad he needs to be calling people out, as the champ. He gives Peterson respect for taking him on.

He echoes the sentiments of Easter saying he wants to unify. He specifically wants Thurman. He wants to defend his title after Peterson at least twice more in 2018. He says "I'm not gonna wait on these dudes".

Barry Hunter is asked to name one thing about Lamont that people don't already know. He says "ain't much different. You know us. We prepare for every opponent the same way, champion or journeyman. This is a sport you can't sleep on anybody, because all it ever takes is one punch. All these guys, Thurman and Garcia, don't answer the phone call for Spence. Peterson was the same way, nobody wanted him. Kell Brook actually called Peterson before he fought Spence, and we took his call and it was agreed, but it went out the window. Just saying. You look back at guys like Duran, Hagler and Hearns and they had no problem fighting each other and we the same way. You'll find we didn't really do anything different. We train hard, same as in every camp. We don't get up here trash-talking and clowning garbage. We do same as we always do and come Saturday we be ready"

 

Oh **** what happened to Derrick James? Looks like he got into a barroom brawl. His face is all jacked up.

 

The emcee asks if James feels intimidated by going up against Barry Hunter, an established name, when he is something of a newcomer on the scene, and wonders if there is a coaching rivalry behind the fighters.

James says no, they're just both doing their jobs and focusing on that. He also claps back that he's been in the sport for 40 years and doesn't consider himself new.

 

A guy in the crowd asks if Errol and Lamont could comment on how they both conducts themselves with class & sportsmanship and ask how they feel about the current climate of disrespect and the stuff coming out of the White House.

Spence is like "Uhh...we ready to fight".

The questioner pushes on and mentions that Spence did speak at some rally or something, and Errol mumbles something about freedom of speech. Peterson says that he respects everybody by default, just the way he chooses to live and some people choose to not live that way and he feels like he needs to respect that as well.

Barry Hunter interjects and says his piece, these whippersnappers are spreading too much disrespect in the world. He says we need more love or things are going to get worse.

Very weird, awkward few minutes there.

 

Another crowd member asks Spence & Peterson what they believe is enough to qualify someone to get in the IBHOF.

Peterson says you need multiple world titles, but you don't need to jump through divisions like Pacquiao because that ability is rare. He says you need to land a good number of big fights and win more often than you lose. He thinks he is currently in a good position with a few years left in his run, that if he continues to get big fights and does well he thinks he stands a solid chance of getting in.

Spence adds that you can't be a champion ducking other champions, if they're readily available. He says ducking a willing, available fellow champion ought to disqualify you from being enshrined.

 

Wrapping up now. Going to be a pretty tame face-off, I think, given the mellow demeanor and mutual respect between these guys.

 

...yep.

They just sort of stand rigidly and blink uncomfortably at each other for a few seconds, then do a quarter-turn facing the cameras and lifting their fists kind of limply by their lapels. Hunter and James flank them, looking equally awkward.

 

Easter and Fortuna, now, these boys have got HEAT.

You can tell both can't wait to hurt each other. Damn. Goosebumps.
