Ive been watching him on youtube a lot. Everytime I do I never see anything special, certainly nothing to deserve the insane hype he's received over the pond. I always come to the same conclusion - Kell will school him and will probably finish him in the last 4 rounds. Am I missing something? Which fight would you say he most justified the hype? I really want it to be a good fight in 3 weeks as i shall be in attendance but I just can't see it. The masterclass Im expecting will still be enjoyable....but you want a war sometimes don't you? I just feel this is going to be something of a damp squib, with everyone scratching their heads afterwards wondering why Spencer was so overrated.
Ditto. I haven't seen anything which makes me think this is the coming of the next great. Seems to me a lot of hype is based off a sparring session with Floyd. Beating Algeri and Bundu doesn't warrant such hype.
Hmmm Spence looks good to me and most others. What don't you like? Spence has got power and skills, the only untested part is his chin. He's actually the favourite with the bookies despite Brook's home advantage and the tendency of the Brits to back their own.
Anyone that has seen footage of Spence and then claims "what's the hype about" only points directly at you and screams I'm totally lost and I have no phucking idea what I'm watching. That only concludes ignorance in you, get a clue
Spence is very explosive. Throws sharp, straight punches with a lot of snap. Loads up a bit too much which could leave him open to big counters, but there's no denying that physically he is something special. He's a body snatcher too I don't know if Brook will be able to deal with that. Good fight. Spence is gonna bring it I think Brook can win if he brings his A game but he will have to dig deep and stay very very focused. My money on Spence if it were even odds.
Most bets have gone on Spencer due to casuals listening to hype. Groves was neck and neck with Froch, Lacy was favourite against Calzaghe, Froch was 11/4 to beat Bute (!) Boxing students realise that Brook is a few levels above Spencer. I can't even make a case for Spencer. Brook is bigger, stronger, quicker, more accurate, better chin, can deliver more punches, better inside, better outside, greater ring IQ. I'd go as far to say this is something of a mismatch.
I think he is good, but I agree with the thread starter. People do go overboard, the way people talk about him you expect to see a Rigo, Loma level talent and he is not that. He is a very good prospect though.
Spencer is a good little American level fighter, sort of like a bigger Shawn Porter, he's just not on a European level. Shawn Porter would probably beat Spencer imo and he was dismantled by Brook - who is now MUCH better. This will be an easy night.
You're calling a mismatch, that's very far fetched. Very tough fight for both, leaning towards Spence late tko . Once s quitter always a quitter. YES, brook quit vs ggg, when you're a "top elite" fighter and you refuse to defend yourself knowing your corner JUST told you they're stopping it as soon as you don't look like the "special" one, that's exactly what quitting is
Hahahe couldn't even see and was still trading. Blind and GGG couldn't knock him out...Spencer is in a world of trouble.
If you're clinging on the fact that Brook was pulled out vs GGG as some sort of proof that Brook is a quitter and cant go to the trenches I think your in for a big disappointment come fight night. The reality is Spence has never been in with someone as big as Brook, as strong as Brook, as skilled as Brook. Brook went in with a beast in GGG and punched it out with him and you think he could be quitting vs Spence. You are tripping.
it exists because he had DESTROYED every step up in challenge he has faced. he is about to step into a fight with the best active welterweight after destroying every other challenge his balls need to be commended if anything else.
