So the fight was @ 144 and Floyd came in at 146 am I right? I've read it was an agreed upon welterweight fight anyway. Did Marquez even have the option to pull out?

no there was a penalty.....for every pound over 144 floyd pays marquez and exta 300,000....so total $600,000 but there is conflicting reports....schafer the promoter says there was 2 seperate contracts for floyd and marquez.....floyd could come in anywhere from 144-147 but has the penalty clause....while marquez contract was just 144...... the NSAC is reporting that they were notified wednesday night mayweather would not make 144 and the contract was then changed to 147....i for one believe the impartial commission over the promoter....

Apparently, there are 2 theories: 1) All along Mayweather Promotions and GBP are fooling the boxing fans saying that this fight's limit is 144 lbs. For fans to psychologically think it's more even. But officially, the limit is actually 147 lbs, there's just a 300k fine per pound exceeding 144 lbs. 2) Floyd / GBP delay the contract submission. They submitted it just last Thursday. Many thought, they already know last wednesday night that Floyd won't make the 144 limit, so they edited the contract before submission by making it 147 lbs. instead.
